Australia / Joseph McDonald
« on: Friday 21 June 19 12:44 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any information on Joseph McDonald who arrived in NSW in 1853, from Scotland. He had with him his wife Eliza(beth) Thom(p)son and his daughter Margaret born on the voyage. Trying to find a death for him possibly in Sydney.  Supposedly he was a joiner. Had a son, John, too in Australia. On John's death certificate his mother is noted as Elizabeth Thompson, but on his marriage certificate it is Elizabeth Campbell. Tearing my hair out!! Any ideas would be gratefully received.Sandra

???Looking for the birth or a baptism of an Archibald Caldwell born around 1852. His father was James Caldwell and his mother Phillis. James was leasing 600 acres of land at Widgeon Lodge, Newtonlimvardy Londonderry. They moved there from Edinburgh Scotland in 1851. They were Presbyterian. Any ideas as to where to go to search would be accepted gratefully. As I am in Australia I do not know which church they may have attended in that area.  :)

US Lookup Requests / Clarence and Mavis Slaughter
« on: Saturday 10 March 12 01:58 GMT (UK)  »
Clarence Lee Slaughter died 28/11/1990 and Mavis Florence Slaughter nee Young died 3/4/1994 Mavis was an Australian war bride and they married in Australia in 1942. They both died in Chesapeake  Virginia.
I would like to find any descendents in USA for my brother in law who is the nephew of Mavis, through his father Arthur Young, who recently passed away.
I would appreciate any guidance in finding these people. I have tried Ancestry and Familysearch but as we are in Australia we are not familiar with the availability of birth and marriage records in America.

Looking for any information anyone may be able to give me regarding gaols in NSW. Sidney Amy was sentenced to 18mths hard labour in Wollongong in 1930. He was a resident of Dapto at the time. What would be the most likely gaol he would be sent to?

Australia / William J DAVIS
« on: Tuesday 15 March 11 09:49 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone able to help me find the birthplace and parents of William J Davis; Born in 1870/1871 perhaps in Jugiong or Narrandera in NSW. Rumour has it, in the family, that he was born "on the wrong side of the blanket" We think his mother may have been an Irish servant girl by the name of Rose McDermott. In his life he never spoke much of his parents although we know his children visited a "Grandma Rose" in the very early 1900's.
There was a William J Davis born in Orange in 1870, but we have established that it was not him.
Grateful for any suggestions or information that you could share.

Tipperary / Jane Weston
« on: Monday 08 February 10 03:46 GMT (UK)  »
Have recently discovered that my gg grandmother was Irish and came from Tipperary....
She came to Australia as a bounty immigrant in 1838 ...she was 17 years old. I believe her mother may have been a Jane Black and her father William Weston. She was a nursery governess and may have been from Cashel. Does anyone hve any knowledge of this family or can you tell me where I may go online for information (I have already tried Familysearch) We would be looking in protestant records. Thank you for your interest.
