Norfolk / Note on bottom of the page re Banns
« on: Thursday 26 August 21 15:48 BST (UK)  »
Searching for a possible relative's marriage, I came across the following:

These Banns were discontinued on account of the Affinity of the parties.

Anyone any ideas on what it means?

Bedfordshire / Family split on the 1851 census
« on: Thursday 15 July 21 17:10 BST (UK)  »
On the 1841 census the family I am interested in is all together. On the 1851 census they are split into two families.

The father is listed as married and head of the family and has the sons of the marriage with him. The wife is listed as head and has the daughters of the family with her. I think she is given as widow but the entry is obscured.

The wife's entry immediately precedes the husband's although on the previous page.

Apparently the husband is in receipt of parish relief and I am wondering if that has any bearing or has the enumerator just got confused.

Any thoughts? Also has anyone heard of a gimp maker (that's what it looks like anyway). One of the daughter's occupation.

Many thanks.

Technical Help / Strange text messages
« on: Monday 28 June 21 12:26 BST (UK)  »
I sent a friend a text last Friday the 25th but didnít hear back. Yesterday I had two texts which seemingly came from her, the first stating a photo/video message was sent but couldnít be delivered etc etc, and the second mentioning an EE photo/video message and giving a link to open it.

Has anyone else had this? Iíve looked on Google and it appears to be ok, but my friend has now been in touch and says she isnít with EE and the texts have nothing to do with her.

Norfolk / Burials All Saints, Little Melton, in 1904
« on: Friday 14 May 21 12:22 BST (UK)  »
My relative, Maria Howard, died April 1904. registration district London City. Her husband's district of death is the same. I know where he is buried

Maria was born in Little Melton. When I visited All Saints a good few years ago now, I noted down the family gravestones including one for Maria, which gives where and when she died, refers to her husband, etc., etc.

I cannot find a burial record using FindMyPast or Family Search which seems strange in view of the gravestone.

Does anyone have a burial for 1904 and could give me a name to search for in that year in case she has been mis-transcribed?

Many thanks.

Armed Forces / Death registration
« on: Saturday 08 May 21 14:37 BST (UK)  »
I have come across an old notebook from when I first started researching the family. There is an entry for Second Lt E P J Hull who died 2 July 1918. According to the GWGC site he is buried at Abney Park Cemetery.

Unfortunately that is all I have noted down and I haven't a clue where he fits in, if indeed he does. The GRO site doesn't bring his death up so I do not know his age or first name so I could check the census.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I could investigate this further?

Many thanks.

Technical Help / iPhone 6s died on me
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 09:38 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Phone fine, working normally, then it suddenly shut down while I was entering a calendar event. Logo came back after a few seconds and then the number prompt. It worked for a while then did it again.

I had put it on charge in case the battery was low although it shouldnít have been as it showed over 60% a couple of hours previously and I hadnít used it.

The situation has gone from there to now where all I can get out of it is if itís plugged into charge when I get the logo coming up and going off, if not plugged in it stays completely blank. The number prompt is no more.

I really canít think why it should be fine and a couple of hours later completely dead.

Any ideas as to whatís happened?

London and Middlesex / Pancras cemetery in 1861
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 15:24 GMT (UK)  »
Apologies if this has been asked before.

An ancestor was buried in Pancras cemetery, Camden, in 1861. Is this St Pancras cemetery in Finchley?

I recently renewed my sub using the link kindly provided on here.

I have looked at the Probate Index before with no trouble but now when I click on the record I get sent to a page re their Premium membership.

Have they changed the rules?
