World War Two / Help needed with 79 squadron the most famous Dambusters
« on: Tuesday 01 March 16 14:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I thought my search for a distant relative who died in WW2 would be fairly easy, but I should have known it would not be,I would have thought given this squadron was the most famous that it would have been researched to death, but here I am asking for help,Frederick P Coaker born 1913 RAF Volunteer Reserve 79 Squadron number 1383996 DIED 2/9/1942 Buried Lemvig Cemetery Denmark grave 728, he was a air gunner ,now he would have been flying Lancasters because they had them from early 1942 and he would have flown from Woodall Spa airfield, all this I have gleaned from the net,but no mention of what aircraft was lost, what mission it was on,I even used the Lemvig Cemetery records to find his fellow crew mates,  there were 38 RAF men buried in it around the time he was buried and you know what he is the only one from 79 squadron,so what did happen, can anybody help,or point me the way

Essex / School records
« on: Sunday 23 February 14 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I needed to see admittance records for the Ingatestone school a couple of months ago,1903-1922 first off the Essex Records said they were not fit to produce, that would have been okay, but by weird chance I had looked at the same records two years ago,so I saw the archivist who admitted they are not letting people see them because of the hundred year rule, and I wanted to look at a record in 1916,the man died in 1980 but still rules are rules, she did copy what was in the records for me,fast forward to last week at Cambridge records  a school admittance book going up to 1948 and all I had to do was complete a document that gave my name and address and signed that I would only use the information for family and personal  reasons,I even saw the punishment book my father was a naughty boy for sure,so as I will be in the Essex Records on Tuesday I will ask questions, who knows maybe afterwards people will be able to see the records.

The Common Room / Are the toffs in the records
« on: Tuesday 24 December 13 09:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I have a line which are a bit high in the pecking order, you know the ones that get a mention in Who's Who and get half a column in the Times when they die or are born, now I know who my guy married and what year and as his wife to be was born and lived in a landed family in Sussex I would expect the marriage to show up but it is not in freebmd, neither is the guys birth but as he was a army man he could have been born abroad,I suppose my question is are all peoples details in freebmd or can the toffs opt out. 8)

Hi all
I am asking for information from people who know the records in the Portsmouth area,as you can see from the title I am looking for a modern person somebody who was born in 1934,now I have not mentioned his name because I want to do the search for him,as he never knew his parents and is resigned to not knowing and as he is in ill health,I hoped to be able to see these records but of course we have the hundred year curse, the Porstmouth History centre says it can look up to 1912 but the records are not there?,he was a baby at St Marys and I hoped that it was possible like Barnados kids for him too see the record held about him, talking to this old man makes me realise just how lucky most of us are with our family history any help or pointers would be great

Has any body had trouble ordering documents at Chelmsford Records, you used to put the document ref number in then you put your readers ticket number and the date you would be there so that when you arrived and booked in the documents were brought up to you,now all you get is the page for paying a sub to look at records online.

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / GSP family tree
« on: Monday 25 June 12 16:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi   well I have been running a GSP family history program version 2.0a  since the middle of the 1990's well having bought myself a brand new laptop,I thought I would get a new software for the tree, well I have to say after buying 2010 family tree maker ,I have realised what a gem the 2.0a program is ,tree maker is absolute rubbish,it has managed to detach wives from husbands and shows only one or two children,it's a mess,I know it has lots of features  but it does not show you your whole tree only bits,so I suppose the question is can I get a later version of GSP 2.0a which may have a better way of printing which the old one lacks,I am open to suggstions :D

Best Regards
