Cambridgeshire Completed Lookups / PADGETT Wisbech St Peter COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 01 April 12 08:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello, if anyone has access to these registers I'd appreciate a look-up.

Doctor Padgett was born in Elston, Notts, in 1726. He disappeared off my radar and I have finally found him through a 1780 will which describes him as a farmer of Wisbech St Peter.

There do not appear to be surviving children but there was a wife (un-named) who pre-deceased him. I'd love to tidy my loose end and wonder if anyone can find burial and/or marriage records for him.

Thanks, Heather

London and Middlesex / Lost Madden or Maddin family
« on: Friday 14 December 07 18:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I wonder if fresh eyes can see anything I can't?

I have this family in the following censuses (apologies for lack of reference but they were rough notes I made before establishing a family connection and I no longer have access).

1851 Bermondsey
Patrick Madden head 36 floor cloth planner Cork
Margaret 40 Cork
Stephen 5 Bermondsey
James son 9 months Bermondsey

1861
212 High St Southwark St George
Patrick Maddin head 48 matting manufacturer emp 21 men, 7 boys and 11 women Ireland
Margaret 46 Ireland
Ellen dau 8 St Geo S
Margaret dau 3/6?
Elizabeth Yeo ser 50 Lambeth

Stephen a boarder Milton Kent
St Johns RC school

1871 98 High St Southwark
Patrick Maddin 58 cocoa nut mat maker, emply 48 men, 25 women 12 boys
Margaret 47
James 20 Southwark
Ellen 18

Then I lost them ...all the more frustrating as Margaret Madden ne้ Murphy is my only proved relative of my gg grandmother Ellen. Possibly they could have returned to Ireland but I wonder if anyone can spot something?

One word of caution. There is a James Madden in the 1891 Tottenham, born Southwark and a floor cloth printer. However I believe him to be the cousin of my James - only a year or two between their births.

Thanks to anyone who cares to look, Heather

Well I was not sure about pushing my luck with this one, so soon after the lovely result with my first posting.

But by popular request (I am blaming Lones and Woodentop), here it is.

Anything would be an improvement on this!

Thanks, Heather

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Twins - can you improve this?
« on: Monday 28 May 07 22:14 BST (UK)  »
First time on this board and hope I've done it OK  :-\

These two cute lads (yes, they're boys!) are now 76 and very special to me. One is not in the best of health and I'd like to surprise them with an improved version.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help. No great hurry.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Great Gonerby burial DENNIS
« on: Wednesday 21 February 07 20:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello :)

Can anyone spot the burial of a William Dennis at Great Gonerby please? His son George was born 1823 and I believe his wife Mary re-married Barrowby in 1826.

Also possibly a burial for daughter Elizabeth born 1821

Thanks Heather

US Lookup Requests / HUDSON Pre-1880
« on: Thursday 01 February 07 21:57 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if there is someone who could take a look at either passenger lists or early census for this family?

In 1841 Leicestershire England I have this family

Joseph Hudson 35 brickmaker
Hannah 35
Charlotte 12
Eliza 10
Frederick 6
Mary 4
Thomas 1

Try as I might I can't see any of them in later UK censuses. But I did spot this chap in 1880 Kansas and wondered if they had emigrated?

1880 US census
LA Cygne, Linn, Kansas
Frederick Hudson age 45 brick mason
Sarah 45
Clemie 13
Ralph 12
Minnie 10
George 8
Sytha 2

Frederick was born England, all others in IL (Illinois? Forgive my ignorance!)

I know it's a long shot but I'd be grateful if someone could take a look.

« on: Tuesday 26 December 06 07:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me fill the gaps in my King family who emigrated in 1853? I already have them on the passenger list. Wife Mary's maiden name was Cheesman and she was the sister of my 3 x g grandmother.

In 1860 Saltcreek they were :-

Stephen King 38
Mary King 44
Mary King 16
Dick King 15
James King 11
Eliza King 7
Ann King 5
William King 2
Edward King 1.12

In 1880 Saltcreek I have

Steven King 67 Eng
Mary King 65 Eng
Thomas King 17 IN
Edward King 16 IN
Henry King 12 IN
(I wonder who these boys, all born Indiana, belonged to?)

Also in separate households in Saltcreek

James King 66 (very likely Stephen's brother) Eng
Mary King 65 Eng

Richard King 30 Eng
Mary King 21 IN
Lulu King 4 IN
James King 2 IN

Would appreciate any help,

Thanks, Heather

Armed Forces / OLDHAM - missing soldier in 1850's
« on: Friday 19 May 06 07:32 BST (UK)  »
As my military knowledge is almost zero  :-[ I'm hoping someone can suggest a place I might start looking for this man.

1851 HO107 1674 98 17
Winchester
District Barracks 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards
Alexander Oldham private unmar 36 stocking maker Notts Beeston

This is my one and only sighting of Alexander Oldham apart from his baptism and I'm curious as to what happened to him. I do know his brother Joseph died in the Crimean at Scutari and is recorded on the Crimean memorial in Beeston.

Are there an military records which might help me track him?

Thanks, Heather
