Hello
A cousin has sent me a photo of this unknown gentleman. If it could be dated and his age guessed at that would narrow down possibilities for his identity.
The picture is glued in an album so nothing known about back
Thank you
Jan

World War One / Frederick Arthur Reeve(s)
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 12:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I would welcome some clarification as to what is going on with this gentleman.

Frederick Arthur Reeve(s) born Sawbridgeworth, Herts 1896 buried Sawbridgeworth March 21st 1927 - I am awaiting death certificate.
He served as a private in 3/Herts Reg 5574, 1 Herts 266929 and 13 West Riding 238159

Awarded Victory and British medal
Discharged Class Z 6/3/19 - what does Class Z mean?

He has a war pension awarded but the information I have found doesn't say what for. His mother Catherine puts in a claim as a dependant on his death. He appears on a casualty list for the 13th West Riding:
238159 Reeves Pvt F To duty 18/10/18 W - what does this mean? was he sent back to the front? if so why might he have been given a pension?

He is back home living with his parents in Sawbridgeworth in 1921 working as an agricultural labourer.

Thanks
Jan

Bedfordshire / Fry Road, Luton
« on: Friday 22 January 21 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know where Fry Road in Luton might have been. It doesn't appear to exist now and I can't find it on any old maps either so am a bit stumped.

For context
A 1913 workshouse record shows my grandmother Olive Carver and my great grandmother Hannah and gives my great aunt Annie under address of friends column thus

Daughter Miss A Carver 69 Fry Road (Husbd an inmate)

Annie, according to family story, lived with her great aunt Frances Burrows at this time. However the Burrows' address in 1911 and on electoral roll from 1914 is Avondale Rd.

Thanks

Hi

At my daughter's wedding a group photo was taken of her with her siblings and their partners but sadly without her husband! Would it be possible to insert him into the large group please? As the photo of him is next to my daughter hopefully this will help get him the right height. The photo quality isn't brilliant as they were mobile phone shots downloaded from Facebook, but they are the best we have.

Thanks

Jan ;)

PS the people in the photo are happy for these to be posted

London and Middlesex / CHILDS probate confusion
« on: Friday 23 September 11 12:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am getting very confused by the dates of death implied in two probate records for members of my Childs family of St Martin in the Fields and would be grateful for any help before my head explodes please ;D The records are both on Ancestry and I will post links so that anyone with a subscription can take a look should they wish.

John Childs married Jane Lyon on 19th March 1771, they had 12 known children but from John's will of 10th Oct 1806 it would appear that only 4 were surviving - Martin (baptised 1776) John(1778) Richard (my gggg grandfather, 1785) and Elizabeth (1798). Probate was granted for John's will on 9th March 1810, then revoked as the will was declared null and void later the same month. John is stated to have died "in October last" at one point and I would take this to be in October 1809. See

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1704&iid=31787_a003116-00044&fn=John&ln=Childs&st=r&ssrc=&pid=260880

However Elizabeth, John's daughter, died intestate without a parent living at some date (the month is unclear, December having been crossed out) prior to February 1809, see

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/browse/view.aspx?dbid=1704&iid=31787_a002720-00488&pid=257616&ssrc=&fn=Elizabeth&ln=Childs&st=g

The dates don't make sense or am I misreading something?

Thanks

Jan ;)
