The Common Room / Random Find! ( Search the internet regularly! )
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 14:28 BST (UK)  »
I have gotten in the habit of checking sites like google and ebay most days for information regarding my family, as you never know what will come up.

I was searching for pwllheli ( where alot of my family came from ) on Ebay just to see what came up.

To my suprise i came across a picture of a girls school group with a woman who looked remarkably like my Great Great Grandmother holding a pan, ( my gggran was the cook at the school ).

I already own one picture of her so i know what she looks like)

The picture was not of high resolution, so i put bid in, won and recieved it today.

I scanned it in at high resolution, and it is 100% my GGGrandmother. So im very excited and amazed.

So just to say, never give up and keep searching, its amazing what come up.

Caernarvonshire / Guy Hughes Photograph Collection - Pwllheli ?
« on: Sunday 06 March 11 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Does anyone know if these photographs are still accessible anywhere?

There used to be a website many years ( www.guyhughes.org.uk ) ago that housed these images. But i think it has long gone for years now.

any help would be great, as a big chunk of my family came from Pwllheli and we have a few photos that guy hughes took of them. I would love to know if he took anymore.

Thanks

Technical Help / Activating Family Tree maker 2010 6 month membership.. help
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 12:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hey Guys,

Has anyone bought Family Tree Maker 2010.

I have previously bought both FTM 2008 and 2009 ( this was through tesco vouchers) and in both boxes came a sheet with a number on to activate the 6 months free essential membership. Which was a really easy process. No card details required.

THe 2010 version doesnt seem to have come with any code? and without sounding silly, i wondered how i go about getting my free 6 months essentials membership as stated on the box.

edit: Just to clarify, i dont update the program every year. I only get this to get my free 6 months membership.

THanks in advance,
Hodgkiss

Armed Forces / Chester Castle Barracks
« on: Tuesday 29 December 09 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I have a relative who in 1851 census was listed as a private in Chester Castle Barracks.

Does anyone know much about the Chester Castle Barracks for this time? And any information on where my relative would have served or done?

Thanks very much

The Common Room / Unusual names
« on: Monday 26 October 09 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
This is my family from the early 1800's. but im a bit puzzled by the names :

JAMES HARNAL ROBERTS  bp 8 AUG 1840 Penn, Stafford
MARY ANNE ROBERTS bp 7 APR 1832 Penn, Stafford
THYRZA ROBERTS bp 24 JUN 1838 Penn, Stafford
WILLIAM LABAN ROBERTS bp 24 JUN 1838 Penn, Stafford
LEWIS ROBERTS ROBERTS bp 12 AUG 1827 Penn, Stafford

How unusual would these names have been? ( Harnal, Thryza - is actually Thurza, and Laban... )

And does it give any clues to their faith?

Thanks alot
Hodgkiss

Not sure if this has been posted before, but you can now get Family Tree Maker 2010 Platinum Edition for only £15 of your tokens.

Ive done this twice over a year for preivous versions, and it has save me a huge amount, even if you dont use the software, its worth it for the subscription alone.
