Wiltshire / Harry Owen Martin Williams 1916-1955.
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 09:46 BST (UK)  »
He was Born at South Marston Wilts[in the "Red House"]a nephew of Alfred Owen Williams 1877-1930,his mother was Ellen Dunphy[bn Duncannon, Co Wexford] and father Henry Oliver Williams 1876-1919[bn South Marston][I have a copy of their Marriage Certificate]
Harry was born in 4thQ 1916 and died at Stratton St Margarets Hospital on the 19th of October 1955. And I would love a little bit of help in finding the reference of his Death Certificate,as I just cannot find it.
His Probate of 28 Dec 1955 gives me the Death Date and I wonder what happens when the Coroner could be involved, because the circumstances have been told to me verbally by many relatives.
Has anyone a better system than mine because Harry is missing on" A-----Y"
I do know that Harry served in the RAF during WW11 as I have some of his letters, was a Clerk to Swindon Council after the war, until his Death.
Many thanks if you could help please.        Allen.

Australia / An Australian Soldier in WW1 Named "Ned" SHERIDAN
« on: Wednesday 08 February 12 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have a 1923 photo taken in South Marston Wiltshire, England,on it is written "Clara Large" outside "Sparrow Barracks" nb, this was the last of the single storey thatched labourers cottages here, now demolished, I have taken a digital of photo, but skill prevents posting, laptop with software is busted..
Well, Clara had  married an  EDGAR Sheridan 3rd Q 1920 Vol 5a Page 33 here, in this Village on photo.
Now I find that Clara is related by marriage to my family, via my Daughter in law.
Another note on paper says "Ned" Sheridan ex Australian Army,he in fact worked with my father David Edgar Williams 1907-1983 at the Drop Hammer Forge,s in the Great Western Railway Works in Swindon Wiltshire right up through WW11.
Edgar Sheridan,s Death Cert states ,Birth 14th June 1898 Death Reg,d March 1977 age 78.
There is just a chance that "Ned" was an Australian by Birth, so a possible registration in Australia, and yesterday I told his youngest son that I would have a look for him!!
Gratefull of any help please. Allen.

The father of Daphne looks like the Vicar of Wraxall, a, Julian Alexander and also written is, Ide Abbotts Vicarage, Taunton.
In all there are such a variation of persons and places around Wraxall, including the W.I.ladies,Roland Willie and Stanley Pill,John Povey[an old man]and an empty Telegram envelope to W. Saunders, Calne, many photo,s of a "Margaret" in India.and a rear view of" Violet Hilton" and "Leslie", in a donkey cart, majority of photo,s are captioned.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Please date Photo of Newlyn Couple.
« on: Sunday 01 January 12 10:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to get an idea of when William Richards of 2 Queen Street Penzance may have taken portraits,he was active from 1860 until the 1900,s, on cardboard ,impressed with Richards logo, and as I have no idea what ladies and gents wore in those days, possibly pre 1900,the background a plain wall,no props, and the pose may mean long exposure.
They could be either John and Betsey Maddren[bn 1805 and 1811 resp]or their son William and his wife Mary Maddren [both bn 1835] all Paul and Newlyn born.
John was a fisherman and William a Ropemaker.
I bought a carrier bag full of family photo,s in 2005 at a boot sale in Swindon, and, located a family member on 24th Dec in Lincolnshire!!this is the oldest photo of about 50 and appears to be the only one.
Allen.
fingers crossed 1st timer.

Cornwall / A Penzance Photographer William REYNOLDS
« on: Saturday 31 December 11 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,in 2005 I bought a carrier bag full of family photo,s at a car boot sale in Swindon Wiltshire, the only clue was an old one featuring "Gran and Gramp MADDERN and the studio photo was produced by William Richards ,2 Queen Street Penzance.
Would any of our Cornish Rootschatters be able to tell me when this photographer was active please. it is signed on reverse Asenath Dowden 1976. Also is a photo af a Mary Harvey and Mary Harvey,s father both signed by same lady "Asenath Dowden.
The old couple are possibly William Maddren and Mary who lived in Newlyn and had a daughter Asenath S Maddren bn 1868 who married a William John Shannon 1870 at Portsea in 1891,their Daughter Asenath Shannon bn 1900 Portsmouth married a Mr Dowden in 1920 and I reckon that she signed the photo,s.
Another photo is of William John Shannon in a concert party on board ship[he was in the RN on board "PRINCE GEORGE" in Gibraltar on 1901 Census.]
I am trying to put the photo,s back into the hands of the family concerned GRATIS and aim to post the images to all who have family links.
Allen.

Wiltshire / An Octogenarian named Harris 1907-2007
« on: Sunday 18 December 11 12:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, there was a man named Frederick Harold Harris who owned Oxleaze Farm South Marston for a lifetime, his Birth was Reg,d at Witney in 1907 1st Q Vol,3a Page 1105,he passed away in Swindon in early 2008.
Known to all as "Dick,"I bought a Tractor from him in the 90,s and recently decided to find out who he really was,but beyond his Birth and Marriage I have no idea who his father was, who, I remember as "Grampy Harris" the farmer who lived in Lower Stratton alongside Stratton Wharf on the disused Canal in the 1940,s.
"Dick" married Elsie Lilian Henfrey in 4th Q 1932 at Chipping Norton and I have tried looking thro the 1911 Census with no avail, just to try finding Grampy Harris,s location and given name.
I am using the Wiltshire Board because this is where the family finished up!!
and would be very grateful if anyone could guide me further please.
Allen.

Australia / Henry L FOSTER "Cash Register Salesman}
« on: Monday 04 July 11 08:34 BST (UK)  »
He was my cousin Ronald H Foster 1922-2011 Grandfather who married a SOPHIA OCOCK [bn Ottery St Mary Devon in 1849] who immigrated with her parents Samuel Ocock bn 1829 Cullompton Devon and Emily his Wife landing at Port Adelaide on 7th April 1855 from the Ship"Lady Macdonald"
All of the OCOCK information is written on a pedigree sheet signed by Henry V Foster bn Sydney,1890-1971 [and just found in Ronald H,s effects],who was Henry L and Sophia,s 2nd son, a daughter was born in Sydney NSW, IRENE FOSTER [died in infancy] and HORACE [died in infancy] no dates given.
Henry V[Vincent]Foster went to New Zealand in 1902 aged 12 and was a Customs official there by the age of 17]all his info found  on NZ Board 27 June 2011 and it ties up exactly with the papers newly discovered.
Verbally I am informed that Henry L Foster went to Australia to sell "CASH REGISTERS"and that is it!!
The sheet says that Samuel Ocock 1829 "Emigrated to Australia[South Australia}where he settled, being lost in the bush near Port Underwood" Is anybody familiar with that Port in SA as I never came upon the place on visits to relatives in Adelaide.
Any help in this Foster Family Information really appreciated ,Allen.
