Europe / deideri and savio, Italy
« on: Tuesday 11 February 20 18:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find info on my mother's family. Her father was a Deideri and her mother a Savio.
They were from the Italian Piemonte around the Turin area.
As Deideri is a rare name I am assuming that any with that name in that area will be a relative!

Selkirkshire / Andersons, Ettrick valley
« on: Tuesday 15 October 13 18:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone know anything of the Andersons from Shortlhope near Ettrick?
My father has a clear memory from the 1920s/30s of his aunts and uncle cycling up from Granton down to Moffat then taking their bikes cross country over the mountain in order to visit Anderson relatives at Shorthope. A journey of about 18 miles!
He's not sure of the exact relationship and, of course, it could be a female Anderson who had married.
I have never done any family history in the recent past so do not know if there are any records that I can access online.
Any help/tips much appreciated

Cork / O'Connells and Crowleys from Cork
« on: Sunday 05 December 10 20:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
I'm new to Irish research and in need of help/advice!
I have a Timothy O'Connell born c. 1862 in the 1901 census, a pork butcher in Cork, married to Margreth Crowley, born c. 1867 who's mother is Anne Crawley.
They were all born in Cork city but I've tried Family Search and got confused and don't know how to access anything else! I guess I'd like to find birth and marriage certs for them as well as everything else, of course!!
Can anyone help me?

Dumfriesshire / lockerbie/y's
« on: Thursday 17 December 09 19:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
Can anyone shed any light on a Jean/Jane Lockerbie/y.
I have a Jane Thorburn born 1809 in St Anne,s Johnstone. Her father James and mother Jean Lockerbie.
I have James and Jean (age 55) in St Anne's in the 1841 census, the 1851, same place has Jean age 71, widow of James, shoemaker born Tundergarth.
If the 71 is correct then that makes her birth 1780ish.
I've found a Jane Thorburn death age 96, born 1780 with parents listed as William Lockerbie and Betty Moffat but hubby (dead,) listed as baconcurer.
Don't know how to check if this is the one (unlikely?).
There are several other births with roughly the right date but none in Tundergarth.
Can't find any births at all with parents William Lockerbie and Betty Moffat.
Have tried both the y and ie endings when searching.
Any help gratefully received....

Canada / Littles of New Brunswick

Hi,
Can anyone give me any info on the descendants of John and Martha (Nee Bell) Little. They emigrated in 1929 from Dumfriesshire in Scotland and John died  in Charleston, Carleton Co. in 1957, Martha in 1974. Her (presumably brother) Roger Bell is also buried there.
They had 3 children when they emigrated, John 8, Rodger 7 and Valerie 3. I don't know if they had any more.
My father visited them during the war when they were living in Centreville but has lost touch since and would love to know if there are any relatives still around..
If anyone knows of any online records (I am in the UK) I could access I would be very grateful. Pier 21 and the cemetary records are as far as I have got so far..
cheers

Dunbartonshire / Old Schoolhouse, Kirkintilloch (Dinwoodie)
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if the old schoolhouse at Kirkintilloch still exists. My GG grandmother Janet Dinwoodie, died there in 1929. The address on the death cert is hard to read. It says..The Old Schoolhouse, then what appears to be 'Gailshore', Kirkintilloch. Does anyone know of anywhere in that area that sounds at all like Gailshore!
cheers

Denbighshire / dohertys wrexham area
« on: Monday 10 November 08 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
Am researching Thomas (born 1827ish) and Bridget Doherty (many spellings), she was previously Mannion or possibly Manning, who arrived in Wrexham between 1841 and '51 (presumably famine refugees) from Co. Galway. They were rag sorters and I think Thomas died in the workhouse in 1885. I suspect that other family members may have been in the area too and wonder if anyone has any info........

Cork / help...O'Connells Bantry area
« on: Sunday 28 September 08 20:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
Can anyone shed any light on any O'Connells living in the Bantry area.
Mary Christina O'Connell was born in 1889 (ish) in that area and migrated age 14 to London.
There were still relatives in Bantry town, tho not necessarily of that name,  (with a pub) in the 60's and have lost touch since, unfortunately.
Any help most appreciated.

p.s. how do you go about accessing parish registers and the 1901 census in Ireland?
