Lanarkshire / Hutchesontown births and deaths

From Scotland's People website I can see 4 deaths in 1901 with the surname O'Pray and mmn as O'Brien - all children aged 2 and under.  BUT I can only see 3 births registered in that area with the same criteria.  Would the missing birth registration be because the child died at birth, and therefore his birth was never registered?  Or am I missing something?

Oops, sorry.  Should have added that the 1901 census entry shows only 2 of the children, the 2 year old and one of the zero's.

Just for a change I would like to compliment one of our search sites!

On 8 March, FindMyPast launched a new item - Women's Land Army records.  I did my usual and entered the surname of Archbell (a lot easier than Appleyard, Kendall or Milner).  One result - Doreen Archbell.  BUT whilst the transcript fitted, the image did not.  So I rang them to ask for a correction.  After the weekend I received a response, and all is now OK - correction made and 15 March able to see Doreen's card.

Thank you FindMyPast  8)  (I have thanked them directly).

World War One / Rifleman Sykes Shaw, King's Royal Rifle Corps. - medals and death information

As a member of Calderdale FHS their February Newsletter has the following

Rifleman Sykes Shaw—1894 to 1917—and family
The Society has been contacted by a firm of Halifax Solicitors who have found an envelope at the back of a safe containing First World War medals and death details for a 'Rifleman Sykes Shaw' of the King's Royal Rifle Corps. His service number is R-29480. He died on 11/7/1917. His parents were informed - they lived at 16 South View, Lane Head, Rastrick.

The solicitors would like to trace any living relatives to pass on the medals, photos etc.
We have 6 members who have registered Shaw as one of the names that they are researching in the Members Interests section, one of whom is interested in the Rastrick connection. She has been contacted separately.

Sykes Shaw has 2 entries on our database – one for a Halifax Courier notice about his death in 1917, and an MI from Rastrick Cemetery, showing details for both Sykes and his parents.
If any member has any information on this family, preferably recent, please contact Mr Geoffrey Nuttall at GN @ wilkinsonwoodward.co.uk It would be really good if we could help in reuniting such precious mementos with the family.

FindMyPast have now added the 1851 census entries for Yapham which had been reported to them as missing - 4,756 of them.  ;D

From the new images available on FindMyPast, I now have separate headstone images for 3 of my family burials.  Location is St Mary, North Elmham, Norfolk.

Firstly - Sophia Archbell, the beloved wife of Joseph Archbell - buried 17 December 1879.
Secondly - Laura Archbell, daughter of Joseph and Sophia Archbell - buried 15 November 1890
Thirdly - Joseph Archbell buried 26 January 1897 (no family members named)

Any thoughts, anyone as to why this happened?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / James Archbell - 1798 - 1866

I would be very pleased to have your opinion as to how old James was in the first of these pictures.  The second picture, I believe, is of James when he was Mayor of PMB within the period of late 1850's/early 1860's and certainly after he ceased being a Missionary.  I have another photograph of James as Mayor with his councillors and that is dated 1861.

A horrible admission I have to make  :'(

My grandmother, Maria (Milner) Appleyard, born in Halifax and died 8 February 1961 at The Post Office, Little Budworth.  BUT I don't know what happened to her body. 

I am almost 100% sure that she wasn't buried at St Peter in the village.  There is certainly no headstone etc. as there was for my other grandparents, Walter Stanley and Annie Kendall.

I have it in the back of my mind that she was cremated - but where?  My gut instinct is Northwich.  My parents were cremated in Crewe in 1970 and 1994.

Any thoughts or ideas of where I might look?
