Rutland Lookup Requests / Birth lookup, Tixover
« on: Wednesday 26 November 08 15:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to find birth info for Godfrey Jelley, born c. 1791 in Tixover. I have no information on parents or siblings.

Godfrey married Eliza Cross in Gringley, Notts., in 1819. The family set up home in South Luffenham, where their first three children (that I know of) were born. Sometime between Oct 1826 and Sep 1838, they moved to Elton, Hunts. Godfrey was a farmer and miller. He died Dec 1864, presumably in Elton (death registered in Oundle).

One other thing: Godfrey and Eliza's first five children were all baptised at the Congregational church in Uppingham, so apparently as an adult he was not CoE. Whether his parents were independents also, I don't know.

Thank you for any help!

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Census lookup: Elton, Hunts
« on: Wednesday 26 November 08 15:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to locate Godfrey Jelley and family in the 1841 census. I have strong reason to believe they were living in Elton at the time (they're in Elton in 1851 and had children born there in 1838 and 1842).

Likely to be present with Godfrey are his wife, Eliza, and one or more of the following children: Harriet, Caroline, Jane, James, and Philip. I'm particularly interested to know if any children were born between James (1831) and Philip (1838).

I have an Ancestry.com subscription, but I can't seem to pull up any 1841 census returns for Elton on Ancestry.

Thank you for any help!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Help dating a photograph
« on: Saturday 30 August 08 06:16 BST (UK)  »
I've been told this photograph is of my ancestor Arthur Davey (1862–?). I strongly suspect that Arthur died in 1887, and the person in the photograph appears quite young, so if it is him the picture was taken in the 1870s or 1880s.

Does that seem plausible?

I've sometimes wondered if the photograph wasn't actually of a more recent Arthur Davey (b. 1894).

Thanks for any and all help!

Northamptonshire / Warmington Lodge
« on: Saturday 30 August 08 06:00 BST (UK)  »
Several ancestors from Warmington appear in the 1841 census to be living at something called Warmington Lodge (see HO107/808/12 Folio 23 Page: 13).

I've been unable to trace this to a specific area or building in Warmington. Does anyone know what or where Warmington Lodge was/is?

Thank you!

Northamptonshire / William Davey in Northampton Gaol
« on: Saturday 30 August 08 05:55 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor William Davey (1809-?) was apparently up to no good and spent the 1851 England census in the Northampton County Gaol in St. Giles Square (at least that's how it's described on the census record: HO107/1740 Folio 32 Page 4).

My question: how can I find out what he did to deserve jail time? Are court/magistrate records available? I've read in other posts on RootsChat that the jail records are unavailable for the period my ancestor was incarcerated. Were these records lost? destroyed?

Thank you in advance for any and all help!
