Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / WAND families of Rippingale
« on: Wednesday 17 March 10 16:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my ancestor William Wand who was baptized at Kirby Underwood on 4 - 2 -1778 (IGI) and who is shown in the 1841 census living at Kirby Underwood.
It is fairly apparent that he is connected to the WAND families living at Rippingale and I am trying to establish that connection.
Does anyone have access to the Parish records for any of the Churches covering this area?  If so, I would be obliged for SKS to do me a look-up but, if they are available to buy from any legit source, I am not averse to paying for the PR Transcriptions.

Suffolk / Bridget HOLLAND b 1920 at Bungay - see previous
« on: Saturday 27 September 08 18:06 BST (UK)  »
As Suggested, I have obtained a copy of one of her sons birth certificates.  This proves she was the Bridget Holland, nee Hoyland, who was married at Derbys as previously stated.  However, the name could easily be mistakenly identified as HYLAND instead of HOYLAND.
It also proves that her husband was the William Holland born at Lewes and confirms his job as a Hawker.
I have obtained a copy of the marriage record from St Michael's Derby.  This confirms she was a spinster and names her as Bridget Hoyland.
The marriage was 10/10/1842 William Holland, aged 32 Bachelor, St Michael's Parish, (son of) Patrici Holland -PRINTER
Bridget Hoyland 22, Spinster, (Occupation left blank) of St Michael's Parish, daughter of) Christopher Holland, PRINTER.
William actually signed the document, Bridget entered a cross.  Witnesses A King (Signature) and Ann Guckavan (cross/mark).
Although this brings us back to where we began, the place I thought to be rather obvious, it does give a clear indication that she was born in Bungay in 1820.  The question is, as she was a Gypsy, did they move from Bungay (IE from the horse fair to somewhere else local to Bungay and what are the chances of a similar lookup?  Quo Vadis ???

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / John Franklin bap Eye, Northants in 1791
« on: Saturday 20 September 08 10:45 BST (UK)  »
My Franklin Family were all from the Peterborough area - mainly Newark, Eye and Eye Green.
I understand this was once in Northamptonshire, but is now in Cambridgeshire. I hope I am correct  :-\
This subject is recorded in IGI as being married to a "Catherine".  I am interested in his siblings and forbears if anyone can help.  I would particularly like to know the Church that held records for this area (the changes of County etc affecting Peterborough have gotten me confused) and whether the Parish records are available for lookups.
Thanks.

Sussex Lookup Requests / William HOLLAND b Lewes, Sussex Abt 1812-15
« on: Wednesday 17 September 08 17:14 BST (UK)  »
This subject is my 2x Gt GFather.
He was married to a Bridget HOYLAND b abt 1819 at BUNGAY, Suffolk (lookup request posted there).  The marriage was at DERBY on 10-10-1842.
She is not shown before 1861 census, but is in 1871 & 1881, living at Birmingham.
William Holland was shown in different places in the 1841 & 1851 Census.  He was described as a traveller in Jewellery and similar in hardware (1851).  After this he is shown as a HAWKER.
Both Wm & Bridget do not appear in 1891 or 1901 - presumably they died before this in Birmingham - where Holland was a common name.
He consistently states he was born in Lewes, Sussex.
I suspect both are from the travelling fraternity as two sons later became Showmen's labourers.

I would be obliged if SKS could do a PR lookup for me in the Lewes PR's, or for any further info etc.

Suffolk / Bridget HOYLAND b Abt 1819 Bungay
« on: Wednesday 17 September 08 17:02 BST (UK)  »
She is my 2 x Gt Gr Mother.  She was married at Derby, 10 Oct 1842 to William Holland and is shown in 1861, 1871 & 1881 census living in Birmingham.  She consistently states she was born in BUNGAY abt 1819, but I have failed to trace her.
Searches of Derbyshire show many Hoylands, but none too consistent with this subject.  Those Hoylands (perhaps this is a derivation of Ireland?) seem to be of the traveling fraternity - horse dealers and the like.
Two of the sons later born to her were showmen's labourers and her husband, William HOLLAND b Lewes, Sussex abt 1812,  is shown as a traveler (in Jewelery and then Hardware in the 1851 & 61 census.  After that he is shown as a Hawker, so there is at least a possibility of this.
I would be obliged if SKS would do a lookup in the PR's of Bungay, or any further suggestions etc.
Thanks
