England / Edward Gove - Tower of London - Pardon
« on: Tuesday 16 October 18 14:03 BST (UK)  »
Edward Gove. Committed under sentence of death from New Hampshire in the American Colonies charged with High Treason for levying war against the King.  - Removed to the Gatehouse Prison on 29 September 1683 and finally pardoned 9 March 1685/6.

I'm trying to find the pardon in the National archives, I assume this is where it would be?

Does anyone know how this document could be tracked down? There are terrible copies of it online. I have messaged a few people but no one seems to know where it originated from. So I'm trying to find the original. Anyone have any ideas. I have had no luck with my searches in the National archive online database so far.

Cheers.

United States of America / American Genealogist Issue 72.3
« on: Tuesday 31 October 17 09:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I have been on the hunt for a while for the back issue of the American Genealogist issue 72.3 in regards to the article

"The English Origin of Elder Hatevil Nutter of Dover, New Hampshire: With an Account of His Uncle, the Reverend Anthony Nutter, Puritan Minister of Fenny Drayton, Leicestershire, and Woodkirk, Yorkshire." by John C. Brandon.

I'm hoping someone knows where this can be accessed online somewhere as I do not live in the USA and cannot access the libraries that do have this edition.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

United States of America / Index or Certificate?
« on: Friday 27 January 17 04:00 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to get a birth certificate for a great grandfather.

I found on familysearch a few entries for him. Charles F Ellis b. 25 Oct 1828 Dover, New Hampshire, 2 without a picture and one with.
Are these just indexes or something else?
How do I go about getting a birth certificate. I'm not from America and it does not seem to be easy to get one.
Can someone lead me in the right direction?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

England / Thomas Roberts and his mystery parents
« on: Tuesday 03 January 17 12:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am currently trying to track down the parents of Thomas Roberts born in England around 1600.

He is often said to have been apprenticed fishmonger in London.

From p.302 of "Colonial Era History of Dover, New Hampshire" John Scales, author:
“Thomas Roberts was born in England about 1600, according to deposition.
Rev. Dr. Everett S. Stackpole imparts the information he had learned on "excellent authority" that Thomas Roberts was apprenticed to a fishmonger of London, as "son of John Roberts, of Woolaston, Co. Worcester 29 April 1622, and probably came over at once, as an apprentice to Edward Hilton.

There is a Wollaston, Stourbridge and a Woolaston, Gloucestershire. So am unsure where he was born.

I believe he went to New England around 1623 and was there without doubt by 1627 when he was married to Rebecca Hilton in Dover, New Hampshire.

I have come across other Trees that have him with no actual legitimate sources as who his parent are. They all stem from someone else’s tree.

So I am hoping someone might be able to help me find his parents.

I do know that his parents were NOT John Roberts and Cassandra Apreece ( ap Rhese, many spelling variations of her maiden name) the only child born to this John Roberts was a daughter, Jane.

I do not believe his parents to be Sir Thomas Roberts and Frances James

Their second son was Thomas Roberts, baptised at Cranbrook, Kent, October II 1590.

He made his Will 23 November 1644 and it was proved by Walter Roberts 2 December 1647.

In the Cranbrook Church Register there is an entry for a burial of a Thomas Roberts on May 3. 1645, which we may reasonably conclude refers to this man. Seeing as Sir Thomas died in 1627.

I may be wrong. I don’t know. But that is why I am reaching out to anyone here who is willing to help me with this matter.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Kind Regards,

Emma

England / Joseph Grafton & Mary Moore
« on: Monday 28 November 16 05:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hello my fellow family hunters.

I’m asking for some help on finding 2 people.

Mary Moore born in England to Thomas and Ann Moore around 1600.

And Joseph Grafton born in England around 1595, parents unknown.

They had a daughter around 1622 named Elizabeth. So I presume that Mary and Joseph were married around this time.

The couple with their child where in New England by 1636.

There is information on them online that all seems to be presumptions. I’m hoping to find an actual baptism or a marriage record in parish records or something. I’m hoping someone can find something I can’t that is tangible evidence.

Thank you for taking the time in reading this.

United States of America / Moses Bickford - New Hampshire
« on: Thursday 03 November 16 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for some help again.

I'm searching for information on Moses Bickford and his wife Priscilla Chick. They were married in 1771 in Rochester, NH. They had a daughter in 1777 Jane Bickford. Beyond this I have not been able to find any information on the couple.

Any leads would be fantastic.

Thanks for taking the time.

United States of America / Allen or Roberts
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 06:17 BST (UK)  »
At the bottom of the picture there is an entry for a Robinson marriage to a Mary.
What one is her last name? Would it be Roberts or Allen?
I'm confused about this one.

United States of America / Timothy Hamilton - New Hampshire?
« on: Tuesday 11 October 16 02:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I’m hoping someone can help me out a little.
I am researching Timothy Robinson.
I do not as of yet know where he was born but I believe it to be New Hampshire.
I have his will from 2 Feb 1736. He states he is from Dover, New Hampshire.
His children in it are listed as:
Abigail 1693
Mary 1695
Sarah 1702
Hannah 1707
Timothy 1710
Elizabeth 1712
(Hannah is my direct relation and married William Hussey)
In Timothys will Hannah is listed with the last name of Hussey, so I know this to be the right family that I am looking for.
The births for these children that I can find all list the mother as being a Mary Allen.
All the births took place in Dover, New Hampshire.

The issue I am having is being able to find a marriage between Timothy Robinson and a Mary Allen.

I am hoping someone can lead me in the right direction of finding a marriage between these 2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Emma
