Armed Forces / Help please regarding a Sergeant in the 4th/60th Rifles

Not sure if this is the right board, if not kindly point me to the correct one.

I have an Ancestor who was a Sergeant in the 4th/60th Rifles.  He was in India from around I believe 1870 and was back in England in by 1901.   He married twice whilst in India his first wife passing through child birth in 1880.   Am wondering if anyone can tell me please where I might find his army record.   His name was Arthur Clark (sometimes spelt with an e on the end).  Born 1846 in Chelmsford, Essex.   Arthur is shown on his first wife's death notice in 1880 as being a Sergeant in the 4th/60th Rifles and also shown on his marriage cert to his second wife in 1881 as a Sergeant in the 4th/60th Rifles.  As above, he is back in England in 1901, shown in the Census of that year but not actually sure what year he returned to England.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I've recently completed some research for my sister's husband. His grandfather served on various ships up to 1909. I have found a Naval Record for him (probably via National Archives online), not 100% sure. Ian now lives in Ireland but is coming to England in June as he wishes to trace his ancestors' movements etc. Can anyone please tell me where the original records would be held? Ian will then visit them in his quest.  On the record I found it has Chatham written on it.  Ian thinks he possibly has to go to Chatham and Grenwich but, as above, I am not too sure where the original records would be held and how Ian can trace the history of the ships his ancestor served on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have posted this message on the Hampshire board but someone has informed me that it might belong to this Surrey Board.

Hi, not sure if anyone can help please?  In 1965 I was sent to a home run by nuns in and (if my memory serves me well) it was in Churt, Hampshire.  You know how you have flash backs, well I remember being treated abominably by the nuns there especially when giving birth.  I had my child with me, a boy, for about six weeks when my mother came to pick me up and take me by taxi to Southwark, London, where my son was handed over to his adoptive parents.  Am wondering if anyone can name this place where I had my son please?  I had heard some years ago that the building was converted into flats.  I remember it being down a long, narrow, leafy lane and the grounds were extensive.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a copy of the marriage cert of the above who were my great grandparents on my mother's side. They were married on 28 Sept 1879 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Aglish. Their ages were given as full. James father is given as James Browne, Policeman and Catherine's father as Dan Hollaran a Labourer. My grandmother, Ellen Browne but later given as Helena Ellen Browne was born in 1881 in the District of (it looks like) Cammaway. Her mother's name is then given as Kate Hollaron. James is given as a Mason and residence in Ballymichael. I have my grandmother's birth details but am desperately trying to find out that of my great grandparents. I know Catherine died 2 Jan 1939 and is buriend in Macroom. Did they have any other children apart from my grandmother? As I've found in the past sometimes there are slight spelling differences for surnames etc which I know makes researching difficult. Am not sure what became of great grandad James and also if anyone could please find who great grandad's parents were, I know his father was also called James and the same for Catherine please, we know her father was Dan Hollaran.

James who married Catherine (Kate) was a stone mason, his father on their marriage certificate is also called James who was given as a Policeman.  Catherine's father is given as Dan and occupation a Labourer.

Any help would be much appreciated. If this is not the right board I am posting on could someone please direct me to the correct one?

Kent Lookup Requests / Richard Pankhurst born c1770 married Elizabeth Martin born c1780 in Kent in 1801

Hello, Richard Pankhurst was my fourth great grandfather.  He was born c1770 I presume in Kent.  He married Elizabeth Martin born c1780 presumably also in Kent.  They married at Tudeley and Capel Church in Kent on 19 March 1801.  Not sure where I got that information from but according to some members on Ancestry they have the same date.  I have been down that route of checking members trees etc.  Not sure if anyone has the means to check ont his for me please.  I was hoping to be able to find out a date of birth for both of them and also who their parents were.  Or if anyone could find a reference for their marriage I could send off for their marriage cert.  I have also looked on CityArk but not sure which area Tudeley and Capel Church comes under.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to post this topic, if not, can someone please point me in the right direction.

Arthur Charles Clark, I have his military record and on the last page it gives the name of this ship and a date of 20.11.90.  Underneath it says Gosport 15.12.90.  Am wondering if the first date is the date that he left to come back to England from India and the second date is when he landed?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Also, would this be shown in the UK Incoming Passenger List or was this ship only for military people and therefore not listed in the UK IPL?

Hertfordshire / Napsbury Hospital, Hertfordshire

Hello, am wondering if anyone out there used to work at or knows anyone that used to work at the Napsbury Hospital. It was told to me that my father, George Ernest Bryant spent sometime there as a patient somewhere between 1950-1953. Dad passed away in 1961 in Brighton although he had lived in London for many years having been born in Ireland though. I have a picture which I believe was taken at the Napsbury Hospital and wonder if anyone could clarify that indeed it is the Napsbury or if anyone recognises anyone in the picture. Dad is marked with an X. I know this is a very long shot but if you don't try you don't get anywhere. I have contacted the National Archives to see if there would still be any records and if so how to go about obtaining the same.

Not sure about the picture now, whether anyone is able to see it. Kindly let me know or if there is another way I can post the picture.

Hi, does anyone know how to search for a record of someone that was in the RIC please?  I have been to the National Archives website but have not been able to navigate it properly and have just given up.  I know I will have to purchase the full record but have been told that I would be able to view my ancestor first.  I do not have a date of birth of my ancestor, only approximate.  Any guidance would be much appreciated.  I do have volume 1-803 and my ancestor was a James Browne.  He is the father of the James Browne who married a Catherine Hollaran I was enquiring about in an earlier post today.
