Family History Beginners Board / When Is It OK to Assume?
« on: Monday 18 July 11 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi There

Im not exactly a Newbie to researching my tree as been at this 10 years now, but its now that Im starting to realise just how little I know as I dig into Parish Records from the 1700s/1800s.

I have hit a bit of a brick wall with my Gx4/5 Grandfather - Richard Dean - a Silk Weaver.  He was married in 1804 to Sarah Ellis in St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney, Tower Hamlets.

Their children were
  • Henry Dean (born in 1806 in Mickleham)
  • James Dean (born in 1811 in Mickleham)
  • William Dean (born in 1813 in Mickleham, Surrey)
  • Joseph Samuel Dean (born in 1815 in Bethnal Green, London)
  • Samuel Dean (born in 1818 in Bethnal Green, London)
  • Joseph Dean (born in 1822 in St Lukes, Middlesex)
  • John Dean (born in 1825 in Bethnal Green, London)

I cannot find a death for Richard and Ive struggled to find the family in 1841.  I do know he was not around in 1851 as his wife Sarah was living in the same building as Joseph, her son.

Id like to try and find Richard's parents - sadly the witnesses at his wedding were no help and from what I can see of the children of Richard - he didnt keep the Richard name going, but he did keep the Samuel name going.

I have looked at records on the IGI and Ancestry:
There is a Richard born to Samuel and Mary Dean in 1784, in St Leonard's Shoreditch and a Richard Samuel born to Richard Samuel and Jane Dean in 1785, in Bethnal Green.    So not a great help there!  I do know that Richard Samuel Dean died in the 1840s, but his death cert isnt any help either!

So Im wondering what should my next course of action be please?  Do I need to do some digging in the actual records - if so which parish would I start with.

Or can I start to make assumptions.  e.g. Because all of Richard's children were mostly born around Bethnal Green, can I assume that he took his family back to his home turf where he was born.

Id really appreciate some ideas and guidance on this one

hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes

London and Middlesex / Help with a Marriage Record Please
« on: Monday 18 July 11 11:49 BST (UK)  »
I have found the marriage record of my Gx4 Grandfather Richard Dean
He married Sarah Ellis on 19 Nov 1804 in Stepney St Dunstan and All Saints - Tower Hamlet (it is available to view if you have a subscription to one of the big family history websites beginning with A)

Against his name it says 'of this parish' and the vicar has then written 'and the hamlet of M&NT'

The bride is of 'this parish and same hamlet' which Im assuming means of the hamlet of Tower Hamlet.

Can anyone give me any idea what the letters M&NT could stand for regarding a parish.  (Id like it to be a hamlet in Surrey if possible :D )

All help really appreciated

Many thanks

OK so I think the first no is the entry id.  and believe MLB is Marriage Licence Bond?
Yeates William is the groom and 22 his age
What is Yeo?  I believe its a profession but what?
Obviously Winterslow, Wilts is where he is from.
Cooper Mary is the bridge and age is 22 and Winterslow, Wilts where she is from and SP is Spinster
So who is John Yeates  - father or witness?

If father then why on this entry is the father not a Judd? and what sort of profession would HUSB be?

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Cound Parish Records - Millichip/chope
« on: Monday 25 June 07 23:01 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if I can ask a favour of someone based in Shropshire who can do a Parish look up for me.

I am trying to get my family tree up to date for my wedding in November and one of the gaps I have to fill is a marriage of Matthew Millichip and Mary - but I dont know her second name or the date.

Matthew was born in 1796, Mary in 1794 - so believe their wedding was circa 1821 - they had a son called William in 1823.

They lived in Cound all their lives so the marriage should have taken place there too.  In 1841 they are listed as Millichope.

If anyone can help me complete this gap I will be most grateful and happy to return the favour for a London lookup?

Thanks in advance.

Essex Lookup Requests / Pyatt in Manningtree, Essex in 1851
« on: Wednesday 18 May 05 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Dear all

I hope SKP can help me with the following family.

William Pyatt - Blacksmith born 1810
Susannah Pyatt - wife - born 1808
Sarah Pyatt - born 1836
William Pyatt
John Pyatt - born 1842

There are other siblings but I dont have the info to hand right now.

I know John was born in Manningtree and I found the family living there in 1841 so am hoping they were still there in 1851.

Any help really really appreciated.

Many thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census lookup for Birmingham Please
« on: Friday 11 February 05 14:59 GMT (UK)  »
I would be most grateful if SKP would be able to help with the following lookup for the 1861 census:

William Stanton Deag b1818 a jeweller/goldsmith, his wife Martha b1817 and various children including Alfred George Deag b1852 in London.

In 1851 they were in London, but in 1871 they were living in 3 Buck (could be back), Burbury Street, Hampton, Birmingham - St Matthias district.

So if someone can look up the Hampton area for the Deags I would be most grateful.

all help appreciated.

Best wishes

Deany

I would be very grateful if some kind person would do a look up for one of my families who for some reason were in Berkshire in 1850 so likely to have been there for the census

Ive checked the Berkshire Family History site and they say there are Holbertons in the following Volume HO107:1695 Windsor Egham & Windsor in Part 1 - in 1850 they were living in Sunninghill

The Family was Nicholas Holberton, his wife Elizabeth and the children were Adeline, Emma, Nicholas, Mary and Grace

Any help really appreciated

Many thanks

Deany
