Channel Islands Lookup Requests / George & Mary Jane Henry
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 15:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have been unable to trace the death records for George Henry b. abt 1846, St. Brelade, Jersey, son of William Henry and his wife Elizabeth Williams- George was last recorded in the 1891 census in St. Brelade, Jersey, boarding at St Brelade Farm, occupation painter; and for his wife Mary Jane Henry née Reynolds b. 5 Aug 1851 St Aubin, St. Brelade, Jersey dtr of Francis Freshfield Reynolds and his wife Mary Hill- Mary Jane Henry last appears in the 1901 census in St Peter Port, Guernsey, but there is no death record for her in Guernsey. Could someone please check the Jersey death records for me? Many thanks, Andy Smith, Guernsey.

Completed Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Market Harborough 1829 marriage COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 24 February 11 14:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

could anyone please assist with the parish record of the following marriage, I'm praying that at least a father's name may be included for the groom!

TAYLOR Benjamin to HOLLOWAY Sarah 7 March 1829 at Market Harborough

Benjamin Taylor was from Surrey (don't have the parish) and Sarah Holloway from Clipston, Northants. I have them residing at Headley Court, Headley, Surrey in the mid 19th century. Benjamin is a 'brick wall' as I can't find anything on his ancestors.

 Many thanks

  Andy Smith, Guernsey (direct descendant)

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Burial James Smith in Bunhill Fields 1845
« on: Wednesday 03 February 10 12:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

I'm trying to trace my 3x gt grandfather's roots, but as his name is James Smith I'm having a hard time, to say the least. I have painstakingly pieced together various things but am being frustrated by the lack of, or missing, information online.
I know he was buried in Bunhill Fields on Dec 21st 1845 aged 60 years, and was living in Shepherds Lane, Stockwell, Brixton at this time. Prior to this he was in Park Hill Cottages also in Stockwell (1841 census) and was shown as not born in county. I have his marriage too, on 22nd Jan 1824 at St. Botolph without Aldersgate to Ruth Freer of Kibworth Beauchamp, Leics.- but although I have an Ancestry subscription this is a page missing from their coverage and despite requests the image has failed to appear, so I have no witnesses that might have helped. I have all of his six childrens' baptisms, as well as four burials in Bunhill Fields, and know that he was a Brass Founder and Lamp Maker, of Barbican.
As he was a nonconformist, I checked the available BMDs on thegenealogist site but nothing seems to leap out at me.
My question is as follows- does anyone have access to memorial inscriptions (should there be any) for James in Bunhill Fields, or any other information resources that might help trace him back enough to kick-start my research into his ancestors.
I'm of limited budget and already paying two hefty annual subs, and living in very expensive Guernsey (gt grandad's fault lol!) cannot afford to travel to the capital for my researches.
Any snippets, no matter how small, might provide the impetus to finally knock a hole in this brick wall!
 Many thanks

  Andy Smith, Guernsey.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / North Tamerton/Bridgerule area HILL MATTHEWS
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 11:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

have a mystery I cannot solve. My gt gt gt grandmother Mary Hill was born about 1817, and various records have her born in the Bridgerule area. On her marriage in Jersey in 1847 it states her father as John Hill, farmer, of North Tamerton. On her death record in Guernsey in 1897 it states her father as William Hill and mother as Sarah Matthews. I can find no marriages between a Hill and Matthews (or variant spelling) which fit, and of course this may creep into Devon too. I've looked at Cornwall OPC and other sites but haven't been able to get anywhere.
Can anyone shed any light on this very confusing state of affairs?

  Thanks in advance

    Andy Smith, Guernsey

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Jersey lookup request Helleur/Amy family
« on: Saturday 14 November 09 14:44 GMT (UK)  »

hoping someone can help with a few requests please for a friend who cannot travel herself? First is birth lookup for:

Anne Jeanne Helleur b. abt 1829, possibly St. Helier, dtr of Francois Helleur and Esther Amy

second is

Esther Amy b. abt 1806- we have no parent details, same lady mentioned above.

third is confirmation of a marriage date of

Elie Romeril and Marthe Helleur, which I have as 27 Jan 1744 St. Brelade, however I've seen a conflicting report taken apparently from a Société Jerriaise record suggesting a date in 1745, possibly in St. Helier, is correct?

 Any help gratefully received!

Armed Forces / Anglo-Boer War QSA & KSA lookup please
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 11:57 GMT (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can help me with information just received about my gt grandfather, Harry David Smith, b. 4 Jul 1870 Croydon, Surrey. By 1899 he was living in Guernsey with wife Ellen Mary Smith (nee Le Messurier) and still serving in the Army. I understand he served as Sergeant in 18th Army Ordnance Corps and received the QSA with three bars and KSA with two bars, though sadly we don't know what happened to his medals or what those bars were. Can anyone provide any detail please?
I also have data that my gt uncle George Walter Henry, b. abt Jul 1870 in St. Brelade, Jersey, married to Esther Jane Henry (nee Sedgwick) and living in Dover, Kent, he was enlisted in Royal Artillery 7 Feb 1889 as service no. 70857 and died Bloemfontein of enteric fever 21 May 1900. Is he in the medal rolls at all?
Many thanks for reading this far! Any data no matter how small would be very much appreciated.

  Andrew Smith, Guernsey.

Hi all,

I wonder if some kind soul can help me with my ancestors? I have the following so far:

Elizabeth Williams, baptised 10 Aug 1800 St. Brelade, daughter of John Williams and Elizabeth Chevalier, married William Henry of St. Brelade on 7 Nov 1818 in St. Helier.
My main enquiry is regarding John Williams and Elizabeth Chevalier as I've been unable to trace their lines back any further. I've been to the Chevalier website and was in contact with the owner but she is not known to him. Also any siblings of Elizabeth Williams would help complete the picture.
A secondary and less vital enquiry would be for birth/christening information for the children of William Henry and Elizabeth Williams. From censuses I believe I have the following:
Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Sophia, William, James, Philip, John William, Mary A.L., George, and Frederick.

 George is my g-g-grandfather.

Any help, no matter how small, greatly appreciated!

   Andy Smith.
