Could anyone suggest resources, possibly school records?
Protestant HAMILTON family originally from Milford, Armagh but all five children were born in Penang, Straits Settlements, while their father, William HAMILTON, was a schoolmaster. Supposedly the children, or at least the oldest, Patrick, were schooled in Belfast.
Three boys: Patrick, b June 1896; William, b Jul 1897, Frederick b Oct 1899. Two girls: Mary b Nov 1904, Edith b 1906 (tbc). Mother, Edith may have been Roman Catholic (tbc), but husband's family were staunch Protestants. The boys served in military in WW1, their father taught cadets in Penang, not sure if that might offer a clue.
Found a possible "Mrs HAMILTON & children" sailing, 22 Mar 1901 from Penang to London, and departing England to Penang Nov 1908, arriving 22 Nov (newspaper notice). It's a bit of a leap and no other sailings were found.
Would Edith likely have stayed in Ireland/England, or would the children have been boarded? If so, at what ages might that happen? Their father taught in Penang from 1892 until all the children were grown but oddly he shows up in the Milford, Armagh 1901 Census. Can't find Edith or the children on 1901/1911 Irish censuses.
Edith's family may have been in London, she died there in Marylebone in 1925, supposedly near her family. Have no info regarding her birth, may have been born in Scotland or Straits Settlements.
I'm at a loss. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
