I don't suppose anyone has a copy of this, do they?

Rothesay Free Church Births & Baptisms 1844-1918, by Stuart Farrell

Looking for the surname Carrick, probably between 1845-1860.

The Lighter Side / Fly me to the moon...

Anyone else backing the new Lunar Mission? They're including a time capsule, which is to be buried on the moon - a great place for storing a family tree for the next billion years!

"The private archive will consist of millions and millions of individual digital ‘memory boxes’. As a Kickstarter supporter you can be among the first to reserve your place in space and secure a ‘memory box’. In time, you will be able to upload anything you want into your virtual ‘memory box’ just as you would with a real-world time capsule. Over the next 10 years, anyone around the world will be able to buy a ‘place in space’ – this is how we secure the longer term funding for the Mission. When we launch, all of this information will be inside the time capsule ready to be buried on the Moon."

Other Countries / Any sites for Italians in Buenos Aires, Argentina
« on: Tuesday 23 October 12 23:11 BST (UK)  »
I've tried Family Search/LDS site and have exhausted what they have for Argentina I think.

So can anyone point me toward any other links, particularly for Italians living in Buenos Aires Argentina from the 1870s onward.

Or does anyone know of any (probably largely Italian) RC churches/graveyards in or near La Boca for c1890-1930s?

Have been googling like a demon but not getting anywhere!

The Common Room / Why's it so hard to trace former NHS staff?
« on: Monday 30 April 12 11:14 BST (UK)  »
Think I'm going to go mad!

Trying to track down someone who worked at the former High Wood (Highwood) hospital in Brentwood during the 1950s.  But it's recently been turned into a housing development, so I can't just call them and ask!

Seems pre 1948 staff records went to the LMA. Fine. But according the the Nat ARch, post 1948, records stayed with the local PCT in Essex. Contacted them the other day but they said they don't hold them, and gave me a number for a contracting service whom they thought could help.  Just rang them. No use whatsoever.  They don't hold them either, they said.  They  put me in touch with the NHS research place near Southport, which was of no use either, but they mentioned a government appointed body called Traceline - whom I couldn't find a trace of at all!

Getting dizzy now. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know if this has been posted here before, but I've found it very helpful for this area - and all for free too.

Census and Resource Discussion / Anyone use Genes Reunited?
« on: Friday 03 February 12 06:42 GMT (UK)  »

Just looking at a potential death (for my Olive Maud Winter who died in Torbay in 1996) on GR. Has anyone used these?

It says there's a transcription of it, but how much information do they give - is it worth me taking out a sub? Or is it little more than an index, which I can see elsewhere?

The Lighter Side / Remember your heroes - and help raise some money!
« on: Tuesday 01 November 11 11:42 GMT (UK)  »
For those of you with a facebook account. Ancestry are saying they'll donate £1 to the Royal British Legion for every memorial posted on their FB page for war heroes.  They're also saying that several of their military records will be free to search between 10th and 13th Nov for registered users.
