London and Middlesex / Civil Servant - William Neal Moore
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 09:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have a relative William Neal Moore who passed away in 1971.  He was a retired civil servant. Family in Australia believe that he worked for the Home Office in London.  He was still working there in 1962-68.

Is there anyway that I could view record relating to his service with department?.

London and Middlesex / Anne Haywood nee Moore
« on: Tuesday 03 January 12 08:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate a lost relative.  Anne Hayward nee Moore.  I just received the death certificate of her father William Neal Moore who died in 1971 at Queens Road Crowborough East Sussex.

I have done a little research and found that Anne married David J Haywood in 1965 at Hillingdon Middlesex and that by 1971 they were at Saunders Road RAF Uxbridge Middlesex.

Can anyone tell me how I can get in touch with this family.  I have tried the white pages uk but it keeps taking me to another site.

Are there any other ways of trying to trach them down?

Tyrone / Mellan/Millan
« on: Wednesday 28 December 11 12:26 GMT (UK)  »
Searching for my Irish ancestors.  I know that the Mellan name is most common to theTyrone Co, so that is why Im starting here.

Some how my Irish family ended up in Maybole Ayrshire Scotland as Cotton Handloom Weavers.  They were there in 1841 census and then migrated to Australia in 1863.

Does anyone know from what area or county they may have come from.  I have been told that they would have been Linen weavers in Ireland.  Is there a particular area that they would have come from?, before taking the step to Maybole.

They are listed as being born in Ireland but no further information so I don't know where to start.  I also have Murphy, Tate and O'Neil family as well.  All are in the same industry.

How do I manage to find birth details in Ireland?

Ayrshire / Cotton Handloom Weavers of Maybole
« on: Wednesday 21 December 11 02:35 GMT (UK)  »
Can you help??

I have ancestors in Maybole from about 1830 till 1851.  They were all cotton handloon weavers or involved in the industry.  The parents and the elder children were born in Ireland and then moved to Maybole.

I am trying to trace the Millan (Mellan) the 'e' was swapped for 'i' on the census, Murphy and O'Neil families back to their roots in Ireland.  I do know that the Mellan name is common to Tyrone.

I have looked at the census for 1841 and 1851, what I am trying to do is find out where in Ireland they were from.  It is amazing just how many families on the Maybole 1841 census were born in Ireland.  There is not much information about this industry or about Maybole and its Irish work force.

Were there any immigration records or did they just arrive from Ireland.

Are there any book about the subject of handloom weaving.

My family of Millan had left Maybole by 1851 and arrived in Australia in 1863.

If anyone is interested in viewing the 1841 or 1851 census for the whole of Maybole it is available on the Maybole website at:
http://www.maybole.org/history/index.htm.

Any suggestions would be very welcome

Durham / William Neal Moore/ Peggy Michael nee Moore
« on: Monday 19 December 11 07:29 GMT (UK)  »
Can any one help find missing William and daughter Peggy.

William is the only sibling to remain in England when his mother and siblings left for Australia in 1925 and 1926.

William Neal Moore was born 1897 in Sth Moor (Stanley).  He was the eldest son of Thomas Davison Moore and Jane Esther Neal.

William married in 1921 Elsie Hall in Durham.

They had a daughter Peggy Moore born Durham in 1923. Peggy joined the Navy during WW2 and married Kenneth Michael in 1944. Ken was a Petty Officer and was posted to Bankstown in NSW for a short time during the war.

Peggy and Ken divorced at some time and we believe that Peggy went to live in Gibraltar.

We think that William may have had another three daughters but do not have any other information about them except that one was named Helen.

William died in 1977 in Uckfield Sussex (Waiting for death certificate)

Does anyone know how I can trace living relatives of these two people???
