Hello,  I'm trying to trace the life of Amelia Jane Leonard and after the 1871 census I'm not sure where she went. She was born on 24th February 1866 at 11 London Street, York Road, Islington, to parents John Leonard and Suzanne Asher.  Suzanne died on 29th August 1871 and Amelia and her 3 sisters were then separated, with Mary Ann and Louisa moving to Heckington (home of her mother), where Louisa died in 1879 and Mary Ann settled.  The other sister was Annie Maria Leonard and her whereabouts after 1871 is also a mystery.

Back to Amelia and there is a marriage for an Amelia Leonard in Southampton in 1893 to Ernest Laversuch and on subsequent censuses she is shown as born in Holloway in circa 1868, so is she my girl?  Her death certificate in 1937 suggests she was born in 1866.  I can't find details of her marriage to see if her father was a John Leonard, so can anyone help?

Cheshire / Captain W Kendrick RAVC
« on: Friday 16 February 24 16:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,  I have inherited a cigarette case, I assume from my great uncle as he was in the RAVC and it's inscribed 'Presented to Capt.W.Kendrick by the O.C. & Officers of No26 Veterinary Hospital E.E.F.'.  I would like to reunite it with a descendant of Captain Kendrick if possible, but the only reference I can find is in the Cheshire Observer 5th August 1933 where he is reported as the veterinary surgeon for the Cheshire Yeomanry at their camp at Eaton Park.  Can anyone provide any details on him?  I can see his medal details in Ancestry, but nothing personal.  Thanks in anticipation.

Merionethshire / The birth of Margaret Pugh of Helygog 1840
« on: Tuesday 17 October 23 22:11 BST (UK)  »
Margaret Pugh was born in 1840 at Helygog near Dolgellau, daughter of Robert and Margaret Pugh, but I can't find a record of the birth in the England & Wales Civil Registration Birth Index.  She was baptised on 24th September 1840 and in the 1841 census her age is stated as 9 months, so there should be a record, but there is no Margaret Pugh listed in 1840 registered in Dolgelley district with mothers surname Pugh.  I got the certificate for an Ann Pugh hoping that her name was different, but it's not her.

I have loads of other records for her and family, but the birth certificate has eluded me, so can anyone help?

Lincolnshire / Edward Tidy and Ann Porter - can a Chelsea pensioner marry?
« on: Monday 03 April 23 22:07 BST (UK)  »
Whilst researching the Porter family of Boston I have found a marriage between Ann Porter and Edward Tidy on 18th January 1774 in Boston and on the record he is listed as in the First Regiment of Dragoons.  I'm not sure if this is Ann Porter from my family, but I'm intrigued as I have found three records in Ancestry for an Edward Tidy as a Chelsea Pensioner, so could a Chelsea Pensioner marry and if so what are the chances of him travelling to Boston from London to do it?  The first record for an Edward Tidy in Chelsea shows him as from the First Regiment of Dragoons and in residence on 14th November 1771 and the reason for him being a pensioner is due a fall from his horse and that he's from Horsham.  A second record is from November 14th 1773 and all the details are the same, but this time he is recorded as being from the 3rd Regiment of Dragoons.  Finally there is an entry from 14th November 1775 where he is shown as from the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons and again the other facts are the same.

Could there be two Edward Tidy's serving in the same regiment at around the same time and if not could a Chelsea pensioner marry and return to London after the wedding?

London and Middlesex / Where is my mother in law in 1939? The missing Collyers
« on: Tuesday 07 February 23 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1939 register my mother in law would have been a baby and as she is still alive, she will not be in the available records, but I can't find her mother or deceased siblings, who should feature.  Her father Robert Baden Collyer is living at the family home (Baxendale Street, Bethnal Green) in 1939, with various family members and relatives, but his wife, Gladys Alice Grimwood nee Rose (b.23/1/1902) and her late sisters (Irene Gladys Collyer b.19/4/1931 / Joan b.4/12/1932) are not there and I assume they moved out of London for safety.  However despite trying all the name variants I can think of, I can't find them, so can someone please help?

London and Middlesex / Where are the Reed family in 1921?
« on: Monday 06 February 23 21:40 GMT (UK)  »
I've been trying to find the family of my wife's great aunt in the 1921 census.  Daisy Grimwood (1884 - 1961) married Henry Edward Reed (1882 - 1943) on July 18th 1911 in Poplar.  Their daughter was Henrietta Josephine Alice Reed (1915 - 1990) and the family are together in Poplar on the 1939 register, but despite trying all the combinations I can think of I can't find them in the 1921 census, so can anyone please help?

Lincolnshire / B. Smith photographer Heckington
« on: Wednesday 26 October 22 20:26 BST (UK)  »
I have been given some old family photographs dated from the first decade of the 20th century and they are card mounted with B.Smith High Street, Heckington on the back.  I assume they are no longer trading, so does anyone know if any of their collection has survived and is held in the archives etc?

Merionethshire / Llanbedr baptisms post 1812
« on: Tuesday 23 August 22 19:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have some baptism dates for various Evans from Llanbedr (eg Francis 13th July 1817), but I can't remember where I got them from and have carelessly not recorded their provenance and when I have checked online it appears that there are no baptisms after 1812, so is that correct?

London and Middlesex / William Martin Flegg - certificate looking for a home
« on: Thursday 18 August 22 14:36 BST (UK)  »
I have been given a certificate qualifying William Martin Flegg as a solicitor in her majesty's high court of chancery from 1875, that a friend of mine bought at auction.  I'm keen to give it to a descendant if possible and although I've been in touch with some potential descendants via Ancestry, I thought I'd try RootsChat too.  I found the four children of William and have done some digging into their families, but I have not verified any living family members, so can anyone help, or are you a Flegg?
