Somerset / birth and death in Bath
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 01:14 BST (UK)  »
My late father's twin sister was born at 38 Avon Street in Walcot, Bath 29th July 1909 and died in the same year a few weeks/months old.  Is it possible to find out where she would be buried or what she died from(or both)?  Would I need to send for her death certificate to find out what she died from?  I have seen her birth and death entry so it would be possible to send for her death certificate if that's what I need to do.  There's no necessity to send for her birth certificate as it would have nothing that we do not already know about her parents(we have that on my dad's certificate).

Lancashire / adoptions
« on: Tuesday 15 September 09 13:00 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there's any way that adoption records can be found for the Manchester area?  One of my ancestors was adopted by her aunt, her mother's sister.  She is shown as adopted daughter of my great aunt and her husband on the 1891 census.  My grandmother, the sister of the adopted girl was told by her mother that her little sister had been taken by the gypsies.  But worse than that, my grandmother was living with her aunt and the little girl who she thought was her cousin, but was really her sister.  How cruel is that?  Anyway to get back to my original question, is there any way I can find adoption details from the 1880s/90s in Manchester?  Help!!!!!! x

Is it possible to obtain demob papers of my grandfather Charles Young.  I have these details but don't know how to go about finding anything other than one regiment that he served in.  He apparently served in quite a few different battalions.  These are the details
British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
about Charles Young
Name: Charles Young

US Lookup Requests / inheritance
« on: Monday 03 November 08 11:57 GMT (UK)  »
Is there any way of finding out what happened to land inherited by my late grandmother, Mary Ann Burns (nee Hartley)?  I know that she was left some land by one of her relatives who went to America, either 1890s or 1900s.  She had two brothers, William Hartley Born 1879 in Manchester UK and Albert Hartley Born 1882, Manchester UK.  William and Albert are the children of William Hartley and Mary Ellen Looney(married 08 Mar 1873 at Cathedral Parish Church, Manchester UK).  Not knowing which part of America that the Hartley Brother went makes it almost impossible to find out who it was who bequeathed the land to Mary Ann.  I know that my grandmother Mary Ann was ill at the time she should have gone to America to sign the papers and consequently she did not sign for them.  I was wondering if it's possible that someone might know how to go about finding out which Hartley brother of my grandmother's went to America, and where he went?  Cheers.  Here's hoping.  This is a great site by the way.  Everyone is so helpful.

Lancashire / 1 Collier Street, Salford
« on: Monday 03 November 08 09:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if 1 Collier Street, Salford was a lodging house in the 1930s please?   I think it was around the Greengate, Trinity area of Salford.  This was the last address of my paternal Grandfather Charles Young in1937 and is on his death certificate, although he died at 91 Eccles Old Road, which is probably Hope Hospital.  I know he was also there in 1936 as I looked at the electoral roll for those years, but there seemed to be a number of people at the same address.  His occupation by then was a Jobbing Gardener.  Can anyone tell me if it was a lodging place?  Cheers.

Does anyone have access to electoral rolls for Walcot, Bath in 1908/09 please?   Specifically 38 Avon Street, Walcot, Bath, Somerset.  Name I'm specifically interested in is Charles Young and possibly another surname Wheeler.  These are my paternal grandparents/g-grandparents.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 21 Holly Street, Liverpool
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone.  Does anyone have access to the electoral roll of 1914 for
21 Holly Street, [/Liverpool b] please?  I believe it comes under the Islington district of Liverpool.  I'm specifically looking for Charles Young and Emily Wheeler, who were married at Liverpool Register Office on 27 Sep 1914 and on the marriage cert it has them both at this address.  I don't know how long they lived there or if it was just a lodging so they could get married in Liverpool Register Office as Charles Young had enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and is shown to be Private Charles Young(occupation slater).  Any earlier or later electoral roll info would be great too if anyone can provide it.  This site is great.  Everyone is so helpful and kind.  Thanks in anticipation.

Lancashire / Emily Wheeler
« on: Friday 31 October 08 00:34 GMT (UK)  »
Is there any way of finding out where someone was born from details on a marriage certificate?  I'm trying to find where my paternal grandmother came from.  We have a marriage certificate that we're sure is my grandparents, namely Charles Young and Emily Wheeler.  They were married at Liverpool Register Office on 27 September 1914.  I know my late father(one of twins) was born in Bath in 1909, but am not sure if Emily came from there or thereabouts.  We know from this certificate that Charles was born in Liverpool and that he was a private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers(occupation, Slater), but nothing about Emily except that she married him.  We have this Charles' war record, but nothing about his family is on it.  My father would have been 5 years old, and he had sisters, but none of this is on his army record.  We've hit a brick wall with my dad's side of the family and it's not even that far back.  Hope someone can help.  Thanks
Mary
