I am researching a branch of my family named Fennyhouse - spellings include Fennehouse, Fennyes, Fynneyes, Finnhowse - who lived in west Staffordshire from at least the 16th century up until around a hundred years ago.  I am trying to build up a database and would be grateful for any information.

I am searching for details of a baptism at St Peter's parish church, North Harborne.  The parish was formerly in Staffordshire and used to cover what is now Smethwick, all of modern-day Harborne, and Ridgeacre in Halesowen.  The baptism was that of ELIZA EYRE on 24 May 1846, and the parents were William and Eliza Eyre.
Many thanks - judijee.

Has anyone come across Michael WARD, an 18th century nailer, at Dudley?  His son Edward was born around 1790 and worked all his life as a nailer in Salop Street in the Shaver's End area of the town.

Any information would be appreciated  :)

England / Death of Eliza Eyre in the 1860s
« on: Friday 20 February 09 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
This is a long shot, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help me.  I'm searching for the death of my forebear ELIZA EYRE, nee Bembridge, which occurred sometime between the 1861 census and the end of 1866.   None of the BMD death entries for that name relate to the areas in which she lived.

Eliza was the wife of William Eyre, a toll keeper.  In 1851 they were living in Nottingham, but by 1858 had moved to Ridgeacre, Halesowen (Birmingham).  On the 1861 census they were at the turnpike house, Brettle Lane, Brierley Hill.  The last trace I can find of Eliza is the baptism entry of her only surviving child, William Warrener Eyre, which took place at St Mary's, Lichfield, in July 1866 when the boy was nine years old.  The register entry gives the father's occupation as tollgate keeper and address as Upper St John's Street, Lichfield.

Eliza may have died before her son was baptised, but there is nothing to suggest this.  She was certainly dead before the end of 1866, because her husband re-married in January 1867 at St Michael's church, Lichfield.  His address is shown as St John's Street.

Other than applying for all the death certificates relating to various Eliza Eyres in the 1860s, I'm stumped as to how I can discover my forebear's death date, so any help and/or suggestions would be very welcome.

Shropshire / Benthall mining families
« on: Saturday 14 February 09 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I'm looking for information about coal-mining families working at Benthall, Broseley, during the 18th and early 19th centuries.  My direct forebear was Thomas BRADLEY, a miner born around 1812 at Benthall - can anyone help me find his baptism, please?  I know that he had migrated to Dudley before 1834.

Many thanks -

Nottinghamshire / Lost children in Nottingham
« on: Friday 19 December 08 12:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi -

Can anyone help me trace two children who were recorded on the 1841 census, please?  Their names were William Bembridge, aged 5, and Eliza Bembridge, aged 2, and they were living at Island Street, in the parish of St Mary’s, Nottingham.  The little girl was born in Nottinghamshire, but not the boy.

Recorded with them was Eliza Bembridge, 25, working as a cotton doubler (pleater?) and Hannah Bembridge, aged 65, possibly her mother.

I know what became of the older Eliza, from whom I'm descended; but I can't find any mention of the two children, either on BMD or on subsequent censuses.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
