South Africa / Help with Johannesburg address
« on: Tuesday 16 May 23 01:23 BST (UK)  »
This is from a xmas card written c1945 to 1970.  My uncle died in the TB ward in Johannesburg during the War and people who put up my grandmother from England kept in touch with her for many years after.  Would appreciate if someone can understand the address.  Are there voter rolls during that period?  I know one woman was called Mrs. Laver

Kent / Medway Cityark site difficulty
« on: Saturday 08 May 21 08:09 BST (UK)  »
Ok, so I followed the links here to the new site and, boy, is it confusing now.  I'm trying to get into the Gillingham St. Mary Magdelane parish records, marriage for 1814.  I can get as far as the red highlighted: Register of Marriages indexed.  If I click on that, nothing else.  Suggestions appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Moorgate Cemetery, Rotherham & Genfair
« on: Monday 19 October 20 02:57 BST (UK)  »
Looking to see the burial registers of this cemetery (not national buriel index).  Not on ancestry, freemypast.  Looks like Rotherham family history society has closed c2019.  I'm wanting to find the burial plot numbers, and registers would be nice. Genfair has a copy of " Burials 1841 to 1988 by name order - Introduction to Monumental Inscriptions".  Not sure exactly what "copy of burials" means. Suggestions.  Very many thx

Hi:  I am trying to locate a cemetery grave map of St. Thomas Brightside.  Someone suggested I ask Sheffield Archives, however.....and frustratingly so, the Archives only has a contact form where you have to have a uk phone number and postcode before they accept your question and I no longer live in the UK.  If anyone knows where I can get the map online or, would really appreciate, an email address for the archives where I don't need this additional info.  Very many thx

Yorkshire (West Riding) / St Thomas Brightside headstone memorials reqest
« on: Tuesday 19 November 19 06:12 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst on vacation in the UK I had the opportunity to go to the St Thomas Brightside cemetery which was in a pretty sad state but the headstones were in amazing in condition (readable).  I found several graves that I was interested in but not my ancestor who will probably be added to a sibling's headstone.  Is it possible to get lookups for these headstone memorials?  Many thx

Australia / John Alexander Shaw, Accountant in Freemantle
« on: Wednesday 29 August 18 06:57 BST (UK)  »
This man is listed at ancestry.com as a member of the Fremantle Lodge Masonic Records as an accountant in 1892.  I'm trying to find out who his parents were in order to confirm a dna match.  He married a Hannah Catherine Brown in Fremantle 1892.  Will a marriage or death certificate give their names?  There are a couple of trees on ancestry with this couple but they dont seem to know where this man came from/parents or where he and his wife died.  Would appreciate some assistance.  I do have ancestry.com and FindMyPast if that helps my situation.  I would like to get certs if I can locate them.  Many thanks.
