The Stay Safe Board / Diary Week Ending March 24th.
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 22:24 GMT (UK)  »
Well ,so much going on this week,Dentist , fire repair and Church cleaning for Easter.
Son safely home .

Had to,phone The Police, some very big canisters of Nitrous Oxide ,- Laughing Gas, have been dumped in the side lane.
Eight of them as far as I can see.
Well tomorrow the High School children will be passing along the lane.
It is a bit of fun in very small doses but very dangerous in large quantities,I understand the containers can explode ,I had told my s on    on the phone when he gave a rough time of arrival ,and he mentioned it to his friend who said I must not touch them ,they can explode. Otherwise I would move them.
Well seemingly it is not a Police matter, given the Council number to,phone tomorrow by which time the chidren -  well high school teenagers ,will have passed ,hopefully with no messing about .
The number given is the one you phone for all sorts of things,BUT never answered .
I shall have to stand by my gate to make sure they don’t spray them about.
In large quantities it can stop people breathing - for ever!

What a dangerous thing to do.

Tasty chicken and mushroom casserole for tea.

Need to order my prescription ,some new ones not on my usual order, the
Pharmacy send me things I do not need and  leave off things I do.
I will go down tomorrow ,it all needs sorting out ,supposed to have  had a Drugs review on Feb 1 st ———— ::)

I ought not to moan really ,Our Lloyd’s closed soCohen’s took all Lloyd’s patients not very well, chaos. Not their fault.
I can also call in the Surgery re the Drugs review .

Am I supposed to have a Shingles injection ?

Hope everyone is alright, those with illness, difficult jobs and family problems are in our thoughts I am sure ,what a blessing The Diary has been.

Look after yourselves folks .

The Common Room / HyJack
« on: Tuesday 23 January 24 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
Those interested in Railways and Cartography, will be sorry to read that HyJack has died.
He was very knowledgeable and we started exchanging emails when he kindly corrected an error of mine regarding a little saddle tank engine which I had wrongly described .
We exchanged emails for a couple of years  but his computer was not
behaving.
Profoundly deaf so the phone was of no help.
Then his brother suddenly died which was a great sorrow to him .

Communication stopped so I was very worried as he was completely alone so I contacted Edinburgh Police who traced him from the little info I could give them .He was O.K. Computer not working .
A few messages then it all stopped again ,so Police contacted once more and again it was that he had no means of contacting me as we did not exchange  addresses and his profound deafness prevented phone messages .

Quite a while passed then a message from his niece , sadly he had died.
She had found my phone number .
Even though he never used it.
I am very sorry it has ended as it has, a very intelligent man a Cartographer which he did in the RAF.
He spoke Russian ,also learnt whilst in The RAF.

I thought some people would remember him and miss his knowledgeable
input ..

For Sale / Wanted / Events / 2024
« on: Monday 01 January 24 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hope I have got this right, a new topic.

A bright morning after a very squally night.
Got up early —- sprouts!
Table set, all veges prepped last night.
Got a Christmas pud from last year,a present .
A Fortnum and Mason one good until June this year, also Brandy butter, BUT,
It is leaking through the cloth covering the basin so I don’t trust it .Have made mince pies and a mincemeat and apple open top pie ,so with cream and ice cream it will be O.K.

Just watching “ The Day We Sang”.Victoria Wood’s take on the Manchester Schoolchildren ‘s 1929 choir.

My husband was in that choir but not so early, in the late thirties early forties when another record was made.
Sadly his parents could not afford to buy a record but had no gramophone anyway.

Son and daughter in law coming for a late lunch ,another Christmas dinner .

Cheerio with best wishes for the future.

The Stay Safe Board / Week ending Saturday November 18 th
« on: Monday 13 November 23 00:40 GMT (UK)  »
Well here I am at almost twenty minutes past midnight!
Can’t sleep so on iPad .
I might go downstairs and make a milky drink.

Been checking my heart rate, Dr. took me off the BetaBlocker as my pulse was so slow ,only 55 beats per minute with a little hiccup now and then  :-\
Don’t know if it is relevant. 66-88 is the normal range .
A full heart check next week unless my pulse speeds up a lot then I must  phone 111 immediately.

Seemingly I have been overlooked re the regular checks I ought to have been having ,a new computer system quite some time ago has not included me!!!
I have been O.K. though.

Well my little friend has discharged herself from the respite care that eventually was put in place , her daughters won’t be pleased at all especially given some very severe symptoms.
I feel sorry she has done that as it was partly observational and some proper
treatment would have been started plus convenience goods delivered free to assist with her symptoms.
Another friend she has is ,like me most ,concerned but there is nothing we can do.

Grand daughter popped in on Friday on her way to Bolton to meet up with her friend there ,then on Saturday to M/c Airport for a weekend in Copenhagen .I think it was Friday —— yes,so Part of Saturday,Sunday and leave Tuesday morning .
She got flights for only £40,hotel £123.
She will call again  on Tuesday ,then back to Suffolk.
She is a nice girl , has done well despite some health issues.

Well I must get that milky drink and get some sleep .
Cheerio. Viktoria.
P.S. I only stayed up late to start another week !
Not really.V.

The Stay Safe Board / Diary, started Monday 16th January-
« on: Monday 16 January 23 08:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I have been up all night so I could start a week of the Diary !
Not much to say but I have “ Dunnit”!

A grey morning ,no big clouds just a grey sky .
More washing to do today but it will most probably be on the maiden not outside ,which I love.

Well the expensive piece of beef was nothing to write home about,I thought to use it up, cottage pie - but waiting for a replacement mincer from Lakeland ,the suction pad on a handy little mincer from them, three years’ guarantee, has failed .

I will have to throw away a biggish joint of ham.
Chucked it in the freezer when I knew we would not be here for New Year, it can be frozen but must still be used by original use by date —- a bit daft but all the salt means it is not as deeply frozen as other ,unsalted ,meat I
expect .
Put some croissants out for birds but usually the noisy Starlings would be at the bird table but nothing ,they have not been eaten.

Went with son to a big Church now an antiques centre, on Saturday.
We have so little room now ,so what does he buy?
A press, looks as if it would be for something large book size ,honestly !
Weighs a ton!
Oh and a little model of a steam engine that would have been used in agriculture ,something like Fred Dibnah drove.
For his brother who now he is retired and doesn’t know what to do with himself ,is restoring, authentic paint and parts, all the Dinky ,Corgi and Matchbox toys they played with ,in sand and mud, proper play but the toys showed it.
Again Honestly !
They remember which belonged to who !( whom?)

Well hope everyone is alright ,and we have a good week .
Look after yourselves folks .
Cheerio,
Viktoria.

The Common Room / Re: Postman
« on: Tuesday 17 May 22 21:38 BST (UK)  »
Strange isn’t it when you think  that  not so many years before women ,half naked ,crawled on all fours working underground hauling trucks full of coal on rails.Pregnancy was no excuse !
Pit ponies were not always used but women and children were when there were no ponies.
I feel strangely angry now!
Very angry!

The Lighter Side / Highland clearances
« on: Saturday 15 January 22 21:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Skoosh ,bought a book today ,about The Highland Clearances.
Not new, by John Prebble.
He wrote one earlier re Culloden, this follows on and describes the long term aftermath of the battle.

How highlanders were deserted and betrayed into famine by their own chiefs.
ISBN 0-14-0022837-4
Penguin.Published 1963.
You probably know a great deal about it already,I ought to read Culloden first, and will try to trace a copy.

The cover is a detail from the famous “ The last of the Clan”, by Thomas Faed
in Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum.
Cheerio.
Viktoria.
Cheerio, hope all is well with you .

Family History Beginners Board / Romany descent?
« on: Friday 10 September 21 18:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I am sorting out lots of photographs ,papers etc.
My relatives ,children of my late mother’s siblings do ,tend to embellish information which can mislead.
The latest is in a letter sent by my cousin some time ago.
She stated that our grandmother was of Romany descent !
My mother who was full of wonderful stories about her family never said that.
Well the surname is Breckell, her mother’s name was Williamson .
From Manchester as far back as I have gone,Ashton and Chorlton on
Medlock.
I am dubious , surely my mother would have mentioned that.
Any suggestions welcome.

The Lighter Side / Goosey Goosey gander.
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
A whole new meaning.
Watching the TV programme tonight about Cross Rail ,and the Lost Graveyard It was stated that a common term for a streetwalker in those days, was “Goose”——.
The number of bodies with dreadful signs of the effect of Syphilis in their bones was amazing.
Many Nursery Rhymes have much more sinister meanings abd there is now a wholley different meaning to” Goosey goosey gander ,
                                             Wither dost thou wander ?
                                              Upstairs and downstairs
                                                In my lady’s chamber.etc.”
The words of quite a few Folk Songs too, may have very different meanings than is first obvious.
The programmes have been very interesting , and all exhumed bodies we are told will be reverentially re interred.
Viktoria.
At least those not kept in boxes for further research.
