Armed Forces / William James of 50th Foot Regimental Number 1410
« on: Friday 02 April 21 07:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi RootsChat members, can anyone advise me if and perhaps how I could access details of the following. I am trying to establish the parentage of William and was hoping that there may be a clue in these records. His place of Birth is given in various Censuses as Great Clacton, Bristol and Newport Monmouthshire.

Many Thanks

Robin

Essex / William James and Father George James 1861 Census and William's Bapt/Birth
« on: Thursday 18 March 21 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
To give some sort of background and perhaps a few clues as to where William was and indeed his father George were in 1861, listed below is what I have from kind Rootschat members a good year or so ago. Would William's Death Certificate give DOB and where born as in later certificates? William does not seem to know where he originated as there appears to be conflicting locations given ie  Great Clacton, Newport and Bristol! If this is info is considered too much please say and I will delete some of it. Thanks as always. Robin

Despite my best efforts I cannot find Thomas Edward Markey in the 1911 Census, the aim of which is to find the names of his parents. I do know from GRO that his Mmn is Howells. Thomas married Doris Violet Potter at St Catherine's Church Caerphilly 26/12/30.

I have been using RootsChat for many years and have found it a great help in finding people that my own research has failed to do. I hope someone can solve what seems a simple request but one I am struggling with right now!

Kind Regards

Robin

I hope this is ok but I started a thread on the Essex Board as my starting point in trying to find the father and mother of a William James who married in Colchester in 1873. It transpires that according to the 1871 Census William was born Newport Wales. Throughout his life in Census returns William gives a number of locations for his birth but I would think the 1871 one would likely to be the most accurate. His marriage certificate indicates that his father's name was George. I am wondering if anyone who only concentrates on Wales may be able to help further. James is a very common Welsh name I know, so finding the correct William and the correct George, is proving to be frustratingly difficult. The follow highlights William's life from 1971 to his death aged 50 in 1899.  (There is further info/possibilities on the Essex board but a fresh pair of eyes added to those who have already kindly contributed would be most welcome. This is really frustrating, I have Ancestry but still cannot find the husband of, or maiden name of, a Sarah A, post marriage named Jones! I am seeking Ms Jones maiden name and who her husband was? 1939 Registry has her living in Bradford a widow born 1st April 1974 therefore aged 65. Anecdotally she was said to have an American accent but this is not conclusive!. Appealing to the RootsChat community who may have access to other registers, that may resolve the situation. Thanks as always Robin!

The latest credible entry for Emma Faulkner b1881 was in the 1939 Register where it is reasonable to suggest that she was living at 7 Longcroft Place, Bradford CB Yorkshire (West Riding) In the same Register Thomas Faulkner b 1879 was living at 121 Mount Street, Bradford C.B., Yorkshire (West Riding), England. I am hoping that some one might be able to give me any information etc to confirm that I have the right people plus names of anyone living at these respective addresses. I've not requested information from 1939 before so I'm not sure if it is appropriate to do so on this site. Regards Robin.

William James=Emma Double Colchester Vol 4a Page 554

William was 23 and Emma 19

Indications are that William's father is George and mother Harriett but I cant find the family in any Census's that I can see post 1851! Perhaps someone has access to parish registers that may find Thomas and Harriett's marriage! Really frustrated! Anyone? Thankyou Robin.

I am at my wits end with this one! I am looking for the Marriage of A George Double and a Mary Ann? They had At least 5 children. Mary Ann Double went on to marry Joseph Isaac French 19 June 1859. In 1861 she was noted in Vineyard St, Colchester Isaac Hd 25, Mary Ann 31 Joseph Double 13 Thomas Double 10 Matilda Double 7 Emma Double 5 Edward Double 3 Elizabeth French 1. I have tried the GRO to get a maiden name but I cant seem to find any consistency! Seems plenty of "Double"s around at the time.  Any help as always gratefully received. Regards Robin!
