Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Can't read name on bap record
« on: Thursday 27 December 18 20:51 GMT (UK)  »
I just can't decipher my 4x Great Grandmother's surname. It's a 1833 baptism record for Beragh, County Tyrone. It's the line that starts 28. It is in Latin.

B Elleanoram de Patricio Kelly a Margarita S?????. (Ellenor is the daughter of Patrick Kelly and Margaret but I want Margaret's surname). Ancestry deciphers the surname as Stars but I just can't see that surname around anywhere. I see that there is a second line where someone called Francisco has the same surname but I still can't read it. I guess the second line here shows the other people attending or godparents? They are shown as being from nearby Usnagh.

Tyrone / John O'Hara born 1865 in Co Tyrone?
« on: Wednesday 21 December 11 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
My 2 X Great Grandfather John O'Hara appears on the 1901 Census in Creggandevesky,  County Tyrone and in the 1911 census he was living in Portadown, Co Armagh.  Both times he stated his place of birth was County Tyrone.  He was a year younger than his wife Margaret (McSorley) so must have been born 1865.  However, I just cannot find a birth record for him, although one should exist as he was certainly born after the start of Civil Registration.

The only John O'Hara for 1865 which I can find was born in Keady, County Armagh.  Does anyone know if Keady came under Co Tyrone boundaries at that time?

Or can anyone assist me with finding a 1865 (possibly 1866?) birth for a John O'Hara in Co Tyrone?

I am so frustrated at only being about to go back to the 1860's with my Irish roots.  He was a RC and was married to Margaret McSorley in Beragh, Co Tyrone on 4th July 1888 (although strangely no Civil Registation appears for that marriage, although I have had it confirmed by the church).

Thanks

Richard

Tyrone / Marriage in Beragh
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 23:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I'm so confused by Irish family research. My English and French research was a breeze compared to this.

My ancestors Patrick McSorley (M'Sorley?) and Ellen Kelly may have married in the parish of Beragh which is near Sixmilecross in Co Tyrone. This would have been before the birth of their first born child Margaret McSorley in 1864 (so possibly married 1860-1863). Their children were all born in Beragh. I realise this is before civil registration so how do I now go about finding out the details of their marriage? Where do I find the parish record? I cannot travel to Northern Ireland.

Many thanks

Rich

Armagh / Armagh District query for birth
« on: Tuesday 10 November 09 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please tell me, did the Armagh Registration District cover part of County Tyrone back in 1865?

I believe that I have found my great great grandfather John O'Hara's birth in 1865 - he was born in that year in Co Tyrone, but the record I have found which I believe to be him states "registration district Armagh or Tyrone". Why is that?

I'm quite new to the Irish family history, I have a film number 101042, volume 6, page 67, digital GS number 4187282 and image number 00343 - are these numbers just for viewing at GRONI in Belfast?  Is there a way of ordering the fische or a print out or do I have to order the actual certificate at £12 to find out more?

Many thanks

Tyrone / Marriage in Co. Tyrone
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have a maiden name for my great great grandmother Margaret on a birth certificate but I cannot quite make it out.  She married John O'Hara (Labourer) and had daughter Margaret O'Hara on 08/08/1897 in Omagh before moving to Ballymena.

I am reproducing it here.  Can anyone work it out or does anyone recognise the surname?  I realise it might be better if you can see the rest of the handwriting though.

It looks like two words, not one?

Thanks

Richard

Tyrone / Place on birth cert in Omagh, Tyrone?- completed
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 10:06 GMT (UK)  »
I have received a copy of my relative's birth certificate but I cannot quite see what the place is called.  She was Margaret O'Hara born 08/08/1897 in Omagh No 2, Omagh, County Tyrone, son of John O'Hara (Labourer) and Margaret O'Hara (cannot read maiden name).  The place where she was born (the same place where parents give their address) looks like LONEGGANDWEAKY.  I can't find it on the map.  Is it an old township?

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / O'Haras and Wasson's from Ballymena
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 00:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi any info from researchers on the O'Hara's or Wasson's from Ballymena would be most welcome.

Jesse (known as John?) O'Hara (born c1854 in Antrim) married a Margaret Wasson (born 1866 in Glenwherry, Ballymena) in Ballymena in 1894.  Jesse's father's name given as George O'hara and Margaret's father's name given as Edward Wasson.  Family search gives her mother's name as Catherine Haslett/Hazlett.

Regards

Rich

Many many thanks!
