Warwickshire / Birmingham 1861 Census
« on: Sunday 16 December 12 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
Im looking for an entry in 1861census for Birmingham of my 2nd Great Grandfather John Patrick or Patrick John Flanagan born Roscommon c1830. He was a Straw Mattress Maker and was known to have lived in Birmingham around 1858 and had businesses in Freeman Street and Aston Street during that time. I can't find any information on him until a mention in 1871 census for Dudley where he was a lodger in Cromwell Street. Shortly after that time he was founder and owner of Flanagans Mattress and Bed Company in Stone Street, Dudley.
I believe between 1858 and 1871 he was married, but as yet have not been able to find the correct marriage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jon

I'm looking for a burial place for my 2nd Great Grandfather Patrick John or John Patrick Flanagan a mattress maker who died in Dudley at 29 Stone Street on 08 March 1901. Although a Cathelic may not have been buried at a Cathelic church as he married at St John The Evangelist, Kate's Hill, Dudley in 1894.
Many thanks
Jon

Roscommon / Roscommon town or County
« on: Friday 09 November 12 10:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to find links to my 3rd Great Grandfather Patrick Flanagan who was from Roscommon, Ireland born c1828.
Does anyone know if an England and Wales census entry with birthplace given as Roscommon, Ireland would mean Roscommon town or County Roscommon?
Thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / John Patrick or Patrick John Flanagan
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking for many years to try find in the 1861 census my 2nd Great Grandfather, Patrick Flanagan, born Roscommon c1828.
He was noted as John Flanagan living in Birmingham in 1851 census with Michael (Isaac) his brother; and Lydia his sister (not found after 1851). Patrick and Michael were noted as mattress makers/upholsters in Birmingham. During 1855 John had a business in Essex Street and in 1858 in Freeman Street and Aston Street. I found Patrick in Dudley as a lodger in 1871 census, and also 1881 and 1891.
It is 1861 census that is intriguing as he was thought to have been first married around this time, but no record found of marriage or census entry...only one census entry found that nearly fits, states he may have been a farm hand?
If anyone can relate to any of this or provide any further information, I would be greatful.

Staffordshire / Joseph Haynes of Featherstone, Staffordshire
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 22:56 GMT (UK)  »
Im a bit stumped...
My 3rd. Great Grandfather, Joseph Haynes was born c1803 to 1805 in Featerstone. A christening found is for a Joseph Heanes, Shareshill 1804, his father noted as John and mother Ann.
I have located his first daughter Christiana Haynes born 1825 Tettenhall...the only problem is that the family moved to Bilston around 1829 and between that date and 1833 he had three sons, Thomas, Benjamin (my line) and Joseph. But if Im correct about his marriage, it occured in 1833 in Birmingham when he married Anne (Hinckes)? I say Anne Hinckes thought to be from Tettenhall, but a census entry for West Bromwich in 1851 gave Mary Hinks as a visitor from West Bromwich (she thought to be Annes mother), and two other visitors...one from Tettenhall?
Joseph had moved to West Bromwich before the 1841 census, living in Lings lane, but no signs of Joseph his son?
If anyone can relate to any of this or provide a better option, I would welcome hearing from you. Thank you.

Im looking for my 3rd great Grandfather, Patrick John or John Patrick Flanagan. In 1851 he was noted living in Birmingham with sister Lydia, and brother Michael. In 1871 I found him living in Dudley, Cromwell Road as a lodger. 1881 he was noted as Hanagan or Flanagan.
It is thought he may have married between 1851 and 1861, so possibly moved area?
Any information would be fantastic as several years research has borne no fruit.

Thanks

Occupation Interests / Nailors
« on: Sunday 04 November 12 10:36 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for family links of a profession called Nailors.
There were many Nailors living in and around Sedgley in Staffordshire, and the Smith family of Straits and Cotwallend were synonymous with this trade.
Any information and links would be appreciated.

Family Bibles / Smith of Straits, Sedgley
« on: Saturday 03 November 12 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking for The SMITH family bible that was handed down to Sarah Jane SMITH, but was lost. The last known sighting was over 40 years ago when the Cottage on The Straits was sold following a bereavement, and a house clearance firm from Sedgley was thought to have taken it.  The bible was handed to the Passmore family. Abrahan Passmore being the husband of Sarah Jane. I would really like to hear from anyone who may have knowledge of this book. Thank you
