Sussex / John Bussey, 1796 Lewes
« on: Tuesday 02 June 15 14:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Received this email from france - anyone out there who can help?

Hi, I'm trying to find the John Bussey, b 1796 Lewes, the eldest son of Richard Bussey and Ann Bish. What I'm hoping for is baptismal records for John Bussey, 1796, Lewes
 and other family members
So any help or advice you can give me will be much appreciated as I live in France.
Could I also trouble you for a wee bit more, I'm new to searching parish registers, a lot of my Bussey Family originated in Sussex parishes Newhaven, Lewes, Glynde, West Firle, Alfriston, and presumably they all had different parish records.

Sussex / Rootschat sponsored site

WOW

Last night my Rootschat sponsored site passed 3/4 of a million hits since it was set up back in August 2004

www.rootschat.com/history/hastings

As the site has become a little bit tired/dated it has been re-designed and updated by our own Trystan, no less.

Looking forward to seeing the new site soon

Sussex / Sussex Rootschatters Meet
« on: Sunday 29 September 13 23:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

It has been suggested to me by several rootschatters that its about time we had another meet, possibly in Mid Sussex somewhere.

I think that the new East Sussex Record Office called "THE KEEP" in Lewes (near the new Brighton Football Stadium) which is due to open sometime in November would be a suitable place, plus anyone who has Sussex Ancestors could do some research.  Take a look on Google to see what The Keep offers   www.eastsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/localandfamilyhistory/esro/thekeep/default.htm
The suggested date is after Christmas when things have settled down a bit

What do you Think?

Perhaps someone might help me find information on Hector Gilbert Farrell - born June 1899 in Ilkeston - not sure if there might be a record of baptism in St Mary's parish.  Also, the address of 165 Cotmanhay Road is of great interest.  There is a sign under the stucco on the side of the building referring to a Bakery/confectionery.  The letters above appear to be F A R (could this be Farrell).  I am only going by what I have found on the google earth map (as I live in Canada) and I do not know if perhaps more of the sign is now exposed and would give a clearer picture on the business.  Thank you for your help.

Sussex / St Thomas a Beckett, Lewes
« on: Thursday 27 June 13 16:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Does anyone have access to the Burial Registers for St Thomas a Beckett in Lewes.

In the 1970's the Graveyard for the church was cleared and their remains interred elsewhere, plus the stones were sealed up in a cave when they built the Cuilfail Tunnel, but, lately whilst clearing the undergrowth around the Tunnel, a footstone has been found with the following inscription:

E.T.
1838
J.T.
1846

Can anyone check the Burial Register please to identify ET and JT

Sussex / Very Proud Moment 2012
« on: Wednesday 10 April 13 10:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I know this has long gone, but I never got around to posting what my daughter classes as one of the proudest moments of her life so far - and we were all so proud of her too.

Although she lives and works in Hastings, her 300m was down Ealing High Street, London

Hi there

A First Cousin I never knew I had until 3 years ago, recently sent me a picture taken I think in the 1890's  of her Grandmother Charlotte; - Charlotte is also my grandmother, (although granddad and her never married legally) and i would appreciate any help in restoring this picture as its the only one I have of her. She died in 1948.  It might also look good in colour if that is not to much trouble.

Thank you for your time and trouble, and I look forward to the results

Radnorshire / Lister / Bowen of Presteign
« on: Saturday 23 March 13 14:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Welsh Researchers

My good lady would appreciate some help in furthering her research by finding information on Winifred Bowen of Presteigne (born 1884) and who married a Henry Lister of Presteigne (born 1881) at Presteigne in June 1904.
According to their marraige certificate her father is listed as Thomas Bowen, Farm Labourer.
She can not find either Winifred or her father Thomas on the 1891 census for England or Wales when she would have been about 6 years old - but has got her on the 1901 aged 16, and a domestic servant - but no sign of Thomas.
Can anyone help me put this family together properly please

Thankyou
