Other Countries / O'HARA FAMILY IN HONG KONG
« on: Saturday 29 October 16 12:16 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find more information on RANDOLPH O'HARA born 21 Sept 1940 to Edward Clarence O'Hara and Mary Johannes
He was born in Burma and went to live in Hong Kong. He married Margaret in 1959 - I think that could have been in Burma rather than Hong Kong and they had 2 daughters Jean and Diana. Randolph wrote a few books regarding his life in Burma and his memories before he died in 2011 in Hong Kong.
Randolph is my daughters 2nd cousin 1x removed and we would like to see if we can link the daughters and their families to the large family we have found so far ... some still in Burma, some in Australia and also UK
Any advice on where to look for them would be a help
TIA

« on: Thursday 09 October 08 19:12 BST (UK)  »
Well I have been away from my family research for quite a while as we have been so busy but we are now coming up to the end of our summer season and my "Family Research time" is about to start again. Roll on November lol

Anyway i have been going through my papers and scraps of paper and notes and emails that I have had over the past few months. I now have a few more bits of info that might be able to help in my search but I need help to figure out what to look for and what not to

So I will start at the beginning

Elizabeth Owen was born 1831 in Llanfechell to William Owen and Eleanor Parry. She had 2 brothers - John b 1821 and edward 1833 and 2 sisters Mary 1829 and Margaret 1835 - all born in Llanfechell. By 1841 William had died and eleanor was living in Bodedern with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had moved to Holyhead and become a dressmaker in 1861 and she 7 children altogether
Edward b 1854
William b 1860 d 1924 Holyhead
Agnes b 1862 d 1935 - married someone Williams and lived in Liverpool
Ellen b 1866 - Great Great Grandmother.
Mary Jane b 1867
Jacob b 1870 d 1956 - married Ann Jones and had 6 children - Elizabeth, Ann, hannah, Margaret, Mary and Edward
Owen b 1880

In 1871 All the children were named Jones though Elizabeth (1831) was still owen and she was single
In 1881 they lived in Middle Village, Holyhead - Elizabeth is still Owen but widowed and the children are back to Owen
In 1891 Elizabeth lived in Pentre Canol with son Owen and daughter Mary Jane. Her Grandson Edward John was also living with them

Ellen b 1866 had her first child on 15th July 1883. His name was edward John Owen. She then had a daughter Ellen in 1889. She reputedly married Thomas Charles in 1892 and they hada son Thomas in 1893 and a daughter Harriet in June 1897. Thomas Charles died in March 1897. In 1903 she married David Evans and they had 2 children - David and Elizabeth.

Her eldest son, Edward John married Mary Jones in Nov 1905 in Holyhead and they had 4 sons - Edward b 1906, Richard 1908, William b 1910 and Hugh b 1913 d 1914. Mary died in 1914 and Edward John remarried in 1915 to Kate Elizabeth Evans. They had a furhter 9 children.

Edward (1906) had 2 children Douglas and Blodwen and died in 1983. He married hannah.

Richard (1908) is my Grandfather and he married Annie Griffith  and had 4 children. he died in 1955

Will (1910) married Hilda and had 3 children. He is supposed to have gone to Liverpool when he was 13 and lived with a relative there. This could have been Agnes. Will died in 1974 in Liverpool

Hugh was born in 1913 and died in January 1914 aged 7 months . he is buried with his mother in Maes Hyffryd Cemetery, Holyhead.

Edward and Kate Elizabeth had 9 more children. Elizabeth was born in Chester where her father Alfred was also from. Her mother was Kate Jones born in Holyhead. Her family are supposed to have had a shop in Holyhead on a hill.
John was one of the sons and lived in Holyhead. He was born in 1920
Thomas was one of the other sons and he was born in 1924 in Holyhead. He is supposed to have married a dutch lady and they adopted a daughter
There has also been talk of Peter and Pauline or Pamela who were in the family.

Well I think I have all the details on here now and just need to figure out where to start

Lancashire / Help needed in a search for a friend's family
« on: Thursday 09 August 07 20:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I am looking for the marriage of William Thomas and Margaret (I think as she was called Peggy) Price in Birkenhead. William was born in 1924 and Peggy was born about 1934. They got married when she was 15 so about 1949. I am trying to find the parents names for either both of them or just William who was born in Bangor, North Wales and moved to Birkenhead. Peggy died 14 Feb 1981 in Birkenhead.

William had a brother Raymond who was slightly younger and we don't know if you if he was born in Bangor or Birkenhead.

We know their father (name unknown) Thomas was 98 when he died in the 70's in Birkenhead.

If anyone can help by doing a search for this family so my friend can start his family tree we would be very grateful

Thanks in advance

Carol

I have  had an email from a man in Burma who is part of the tribe that this photo shows. The photo was taken about 65 years ago by my Father in Law when he served with the KOYLIs in WW2.

On closer inspection by his father and Uncle, it turns out that the man in the middle is their father and he was the chief at that time. Due to illiteracy they have no tribal history but the man who contacted me is going to be the first to try and keep the history alive. He had googled Khoibu tribe and found the page on rootschat that had the original post from me asking who these people may be,

The only photo they have of the Chief was given to them by the Manipur State Museum and was only passport size. They have blown this up to 15 x 20 inches so it will have lost a lot of its clarity. This photo isn't the best but is better. Though I was hoping that some kind soul could clean it up and possibly make a decent sized picture of the Chief. I have tried and all my efforts seem to make it worse

Thanks in advance for all your help

The Common Room / Metrolpole Buildings - Cardiff
« on: Sunday 06 May 07 18:25 BST (UK)  »
I have just got four photos in their original frames from my Dad and one the back of one of them is the following information

FORGET ME NOT PORTRAIT PAINTING COMPANY,
METROPOLE BUILDINGS opposite FREE LIBRARY.

The picture has a silver quality to itand is printed on cardboard type material.

I have checked the directories but can find nothing about the business at all. The Free Library was in Working Street but cannot find Metropole Buildings in that street. When I googled the Metropole Buildings it said it was used until 1863.

Can anyone help find the business and when it was about so I could get an idea of the age of the picture. Even the owner of the business would be great as there could be a link to the family that way as none of the family were actually living in Cardiff

Thanks for your help

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Date for this photo please
« on: Thursday 12 April 07 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone again - back on after convalescing for a while.

Anyway been going through some old photos of my Dad's and he has this one. We have researched the photographers in the trade directories and found the studio was there in 1894 and was Williams and Williams but by 1900 it was just Williams. Just not sure of any names of the owners or the date of the photo.

Now we originally thought he was a member of my Gran's family as she was Williams BUT my Grandad's family were Mariners and I remember reading somewhere that objects in the photos often showed professions etc. So is that a telescope in his left hand?

My Dad's Grandad was a Mariner and was in Bootle in 1894 as his eldest son was born there. The only problem would be why he went over to Birkenhead instead of having a photo done at Bootle (that's if it is him)

Also I have posted another photo which we think is the same man but younger. Again can anyone give a date for the photo of the group of 3 and is the man on the left the same man as in the first photo?

Any help will be appreciated a lot

Thanks

Carol
