Armed Forces / 81st Regiment of Foot
« on: Tuesday 02 June 15 01:47 BST (UK)  »
:) My 3rd great grandfather William Duke died 25 June 1849 at Belturbet Barracks Ireland. He was a Barrack Sergeant. I have this DC stating he was buried on 27 June 1849

I have obtained his army record  - but am unsure if it is him.  ::)

I have a Ancestry subscription and have looked at the Chelsea Pensioner document and note that on this record to the right of his name states died 25 June but can't quite decipher it.  ???
Is it possible for someone to check the Royal Chelsea to confirm  :)

Another public Ancestry member is also researching William Duke 81st Regiment of Foot and the Army records they have states 1877 but I think this was a verified document printed in 1877.

William Duke was a Sergeant Major 81st Regiment of Foot.

This may be confusing also. On the army service record I have his number is 199 but on the public Ancestry member it is 499  ::)

PS As you can probably tell I have noooooooo experience in military research !!!  ;D

Help much appreciated.

Cheers Kay (Australia)

Hi everyone

Am wondering if anyone would have Catherine Reilly in their tree. She married James Elliot (a shoemaker) early 1800 and lived in Cavan before moving to Glasgow.
Cheers

Looking for information on Thomas Hunt who married Margaret Duke 1850 in Cavan. He stated he was a Private in the 35th Regiment of Foot. His father also Thomas Hunt (a Butcher)
I am wondering if you can help me find his service records. I live in Australia and don't quite understand how TNA works  :-\

Kind regards Kay  :)

Ireland / Gibraltar townland- Ireland?
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 11:46 GMT (UK)  »
 :)

Hope this question does not sound stupid!

I have an ancestor who on some census states he was born in Ireland and in 1881 states his birth as Gibraltar.

I noticed by accident looking at Griffiths data a townland called Gibraltar.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Have spent a couple of years looking for him in Country GIBRALTAR.  ::)

Many thanks

I have an ancestor Sergeant William Duke born about 1800 and died at the barracks in 1849.

I have his DC1849 but does not state regiment or service number  :(

Cavan / MARGARET DUKE
« on: Tuesday 25 May 10 07:13 BST (UK)  »
 ::) ::) ::)

Hope someone may be able to help me. I have been trying so hard to trace my ancestors.

Have found on the LDS site Margaret Duke B1811 who married Thomas Hunt in Anna, CAVAN, Ireland 28 August 1850. Parent of Margaret Duke listed as James Elliot  ??? ???  I am almost positive this is my ggg grandmother as my grandmother's name was Elizabeth-Duke Robertson Campbell.

I have a DC1874 for Margaret Hunt who died in Glasgow Widow 1st of William Hamilton dec (44th Regiment of Foot) and  widow 2nd of Thomas Hunt (Engineer) Parents listed as James Elliot (shoemaker) and Catherine nee Reilly.

My great great grandmother Mary Ann HUNT according to IGI was born 1844-1846 in Ireland - Parents Margaret Elliot and Thomas Hunt  ::)
Mary Ann married William Buchanan 1863 in Glasgow and I have followed them through all the census (if it's my right  ??? family.)
On one of the census states Mary Ann as born in Belturbet but have not been able to find anything about her to confirm this.

I also have a DC1905 for Mary Ann Hunt/Buchanan which states Parents as Thomas Henry Hunt (Chelsea Pension dec) and Margaret Hunt nee DUKE

 ;) ;) ;)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

??? Looking for more help. Have spent most of the day and night  ::) on the National Archives trying to find an ancestor who was in the 44th Foot Regiment.
I have a marriage certificate 1864 for William Hamilton (born 1839) which states parents

The 1841 Scotland Census lists a William Hamilton born abt 1811 in Ireland at Infantry Barracks Army 644/1 Lanarkshire (if that's him  :-\
I think he may have died soon after because his wife remarried about 1844.

:)   I have a death certificate for Thomas Henry HUNT 1856 age 5 years. I am trying to trace parents with little information to go on  ::)
The certificate states parents - Thomas Hunt (Chelsea Pensioner) and Margaret nee Elliot.
I have collected many wrong Hunts from SP  :-\
Can anyone tell me if I can find a list of 'Chelsea Pensioners?' or what it means?
I live in Australia and have no idea where to look.
