The Common Room / Deserting your ship
« on: Saturday 11 November 06 02:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone.

If someone deserted their post on a ship (like not returning). What would their punishment be. They would of been missing about 2-3 days before the ship sailed from port.

Any help would be welcomed.
Thanks

« on: Friday 03 November 06 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you to Agnes and Indi. i opened up a map and went through the district kings 1-250. Looked for a Lafayette ave brooklyn. Located it in a few district numbers 104 in particular. The trouble i'm having now is the road goes to house number 466 on distict 104 pg 18 and 448a on pg 17. Now i'm looking for number 445 and it just seems to have disappered off the face of the earth.I've gone through the districts with lafayette ave page by page. Quite alot of pages i may add. Lost count after 50. Can any one help me locate this address. It just doesn't seem to exist on paper. I've trailed through so many pages to no avail. Feel like i live in new york now i know it so well.

Please anyone help.   :( :( :(

United States of America / locating a road on us census
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
HI
On the 1930 census, where would Lafayette av, brooklyn new york come under. I'm searching by district in brooklyn but i'm having trouble trying to locate it. All the east and west ave and 115th streets. I've had a look at the districts for manhattan and there numbered from 1001 to 1249. Does any one know whereabouts lafayette ave comes under. I have tried scrolling through these and it just seems to take for ever. Just thought someone might know an easier way. Wish i lived in usa to be able to understand these streets. Please can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

United States of America / census records usa
« on: Sunday 29 October 06 23:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

Just a silly question really. If someone was supposed to be living in a nunnery ( a child ) what would they be down as in the 1910 us census. Would it be an inmate, boarder, lodger or what? Does someone out there know. or experienced this on their own trees.

Very confusing, and very frustraiting.

Thanks Tracy :) :)

The Common Room / a birth in 1940
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 23:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone.

I'm having trouble finding a relative. When a birth is registered nowadays if the parents aren't married the babies name is recorded under the mothers and fathers name ( if the father gives permission). Is this the same rule in the 40s a previously. I've looked for this person in the indexes and he was definately born in england. His parents married 1941 and he was born in 42 but can't find him is it possible he might not even be on them.

Any suggestions or help would be very welcome.

Thanks Tracy  :) :)
