Dublin / Is there a church called St Joseph Berkely in Dublin?
« on: Tuesday 14 June 16 20:29 BST (UK)  »

Hello All,

I recently ordered a copy of my g-g grandparents marriage certificate, Denis Murphy and Elizabeth Hollywood. The handwriting on the certificate is pretty hard to read. They were married on the 13th August, 1909 and the handwriting suggests they were married in is named as St Joseph, Berkeley with Denis' address listed as 19 Ashford M and Elizabeth's as 45 Royal Canal.

Is there a church by this name? If so can anybody shed any light in which parish it would be in?

Many Thanks,

Ian

Does anybody have any information on the Hull Subscription Mill Society? I have uncovered an article from the Hull Daily Mail dated 29th January 1886 detailing their annual meeting. The mentions that my great-great grandfather, Robert Grassby Dearing was elected to the committee of the society.

Many Thanks,

Ian

Occupation Interests / Merchant Seaman service book help.
« on: Wednesday 20 June 07 10:58 BST (UK)  »
I recently have received a copy of my Great Grandfathers Merchant Seaman book from a relative.

Written across the first page is the following;

"Eligible under the Act 1906 for AB rating."

Does any one know what this related to  ???

My g-grandfathers was born in Sweden and came to the UK sometime around 1900, serving as a Merchant Seaman from 1901-1907. As far as I know, he did not apply for UK Citizenship, however, he does appear on the Electoral Roll for the eyars 1914, 1918-1922 and 1932.

Any help is solving this puzzle will be greatly received.

Completed Census Requests / Albert Olsen-1901 census
« on: Thursday 07 September 06 09:48 BST (UK)  »

Hello,

I have been searching for my-g-grandfather, Albert Olsen on the 1901 census for some time with no success.

At the time of the census, I know he was aboard aMerchant ship called the Moorby that left cardiff on the 22nd January, 1901. At the time of the census he would have been 25/26.

Would ships that were at sea at the time of the census have been included on the census?

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / MISSING BIRTH REFs
« on: Thursday 25 May 06 12:49 BST (UK)  »

Hello,

I seem to have hit a bit of a brick wall in my research. I have been unable to locate the birth references for my g-g grandfathers brothers, Henry Dearing and Francis Dearing. The 1861 census states that Henry at the time was 5 (born c. 1856) and Francis was 3 (born c. 1858). I have searched though Yorks BMD, Free BMD and visited the FRC, searching under Dearing, Dering Deering from 1850 to 1860 but with no success.

Is there any chance thatthe births were not registed at all?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Ian  ???
