Lancashire / Jane Clare - Liverpool & William Thompson - Sheffield
« on: Monday 23 February 09 17:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have received the birth certificate of one of my ancestors William George Thompson born 1850 Sheffield. With finding out the mother's maiden name which is Clare, (Jane) I am now trying to find her marriage to William Thompson. According to census 1851-1901 Jane is said to be born Liverpool abt. 1818. I have checked the 1841 census and there is a Jane Clare living with someone, presumably her mother called Margery Clare born Ireland.

The other puzzle I have is that they had a child born abt.1846 Belfast,  Ireland, John Thompson, according to the census but the rest of the children were born Sheffield. Now the census for William Thompson, Jane's husband says born Sheffield. I have looked at various websites and the usual but not found anything.

If any one has any ideas on this or where to look next, I would much appreciate some input. To say the least, this has rather done my head in today.  ??? :'(

thank you Lil

Cornwall / GONINNAN/MOYLE/JEWELL/THOMAS/MARTHA/PLEMMIN/DOWAR

Hi

Looking for any family connection to the above names. Mostly from the Helston area of Cornwall. I know the families as such, spread out into Breage and Wendron and the surrounding area. My main interest is Edward Goninnan and Sophia Moyle who finished up living in Rotherham, Yorkshire. Edward's occupation was a currier so suspect this was the reason for the family moving up North.

The other names I am also interested in furthering as they are part of the Goninnan and Moyle line. If any of the names ring a bell with you, I would love to hear from you.

Kind regards  :)

Derbyshire / Archelaus Hancock of Stoke, Derbyshire
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Looking for marriage details, if there is any available of Archelaus Hancock birth abt. 1810 to a Martha Dungworth. I have a marriage date of 25 April 1830 Sheffield. Archelaus was a confectioner/baker who was born Stoke, Goatscliffe near Grindleford/Stoney Middleton. I have checked the website of Rosemary Lockie which is a fabulous but sadly cannot find the father of Archelaus. There are others of the same name including Hercules/Herculi.

Children of Archelaus and Martha to date are Louisa, William, Elizabeth, Albert, Emma, Archelaus, Martha Mary (2xgrtgrandmother) and Lucy Ellen Hancock.  I have two lines of Hancocks to follow one is on my mother's side the other my father's side. The family mainly live in the Ecclesall Bierlow end of Sheffield and the other line Broad Oak Green/Bents Green and Dore/Totley side of Sheffield each seperate line not living far from one another!!

I visited the General Cemetery Sheffield where Archelaus is buried with his wife and other family members but sadly there is no MI. The whole area is grassed over with no stones whatsoever.

Martha Mary Hancock married William George Thompson in 1871 Sheffield.

Really hoping someone can may be give me a lead on this or a point in the right direction.

Thank you and kind regards

Kent / Love Family of Middlesex, Kent & Yorks
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have been trying to solve this line for a number of years only to keep putting it to one side whilst researching other lines.

My grandmother was Edith Mabel Love born Sheffield and her father was Henry Stephen Love born 1888 Shepherd's Bush, Middlesex. I have copies of both birth and marriage certificates for Henry Stephen but my problem lies in locating the marriage of his father Henry William Love to a Eleanor Graham. William according to the 1891 census was born Paddington and living Hammersmith and then the 1901 census says he was born Margate, Kent at that time living at Cliff at Hoo. Eleanor's area of birth stays the same with Barnett.

William and Eleanor had two other children called William and Edith Mabel Love. I have tried to work back through the census but with out the relevant marriage details to clarify who Henry William's father is I can't go any further. I have looked through the marriage index and haven't come across anything as yet. If any one can help with this I would love to hear from you. To be honest here I didn't know whether to post this on the Middlesex board or the Kent one, but going on details of my great Aunt she was adament the family came from Kent!

Thank you and kind regards

Staffordshire / William Edwards of Longton, Staffs
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 11:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Trying to locate the marriage details of a William Edwards born abt.1821 Longton, Staffs to a Sarah Unknown born abt. 1821 Staffs. This is the first marriage of William with known children to date are Enock Edwards 1837 Longton, Staffs and Benjamin Edwards 1838 Stoke on Trent.

Second marriage which is the line I descend from was that William married a Eliza Unknown born abt. 1825 Fenton, Staffs. Now for some reason William and Eliza moved up to Scotland as two of the children were born there and then the family finished up in Mexborough, Yorkshire. William is noted as being a potter/dealer in china so would presume that this is one of the reasons for the move. Also Mexborough I believe was a focal point in the pottery trade as I know Staffordshire certainly was.

William had a grandaughter called Lily who was my greatgrandmother she married Ralph Mawson.

I have looked at this and looked again but hoping a pair of fresh eyes might help point me in the right direction!!

Thank you and kind regards

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage/baptism Lookup - Leeds
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 11:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have the following William Mawson birth abt. 1720 Leeds and Mary Wood abt.1724 Ferrybridge, Yorkshire. As far as I am led to believe they married 5 March 1745 Leeds. If at all possible I would love details of either baptism or marriage. I am trying to locate the father of William as I wish to take this line further back.

To date I have one child of William and Mary who was John Mawson abt.1745 Wath, Yorkshire buried Owston, Burghwallis 1819. John was married to Frances Oates. All details I have coming forward but as I say would love to be able to go back another generation at least.

If anyone is able to do a lookup for either of the baptism or marriage I would be eternally grateful! William Mawson would be my 7xgreatgrandfather, would love an eighth but here's hoping.  :)

Kind regards
