Many thanks for your help. :)

The Common Room / Narrowing down marriage entry from 2 possibles
« on: Friday 05 January 18 23:37 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to order the marriage cert for John Woods and Frances Green nee Warden who married in Norwich sometime between 1851 and 1871.

I've found 2 possibles - Sept 1864, Norwich, 4b 245 and Sept 1867, Norwich, 4b 181 - but they aren't the only people marrying each time and the first entry has 5 people on the page rather than 6 which is really confusing! I think in the 1867 entry the other couple Sarah Young Lakeman and George Fidler married judging by the 1871 census and probate record, but then there's no guarantee that that John Woods and Frances Green are my ancestors.

Is there any way to narrow it down or do I just have to buy both certificates?

London and Middlesex / Sophia Suxspeach b Clerkenwell abt 1814
« on: Monday 01 January 18 22:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have my gggg grandmother Sophia Wright nee Suxspeach in my tree. According to various census entries she was born Clerkenwell and married to Richard Wright, a pavior/stonemason. I know her maiden name from the parish marriage record and my ggg grandmother's birth certificate.

I thought I had the right birth entry as the only Clerkenwell baptism record I can find is Sophia Suxspeach bap 27 June 1813, Clerkenwell St James, born 13 Nov 1812 to William (a carpenter) and Frances Suxspeach.
There are also siblings -
Frances bap 8 Jan 1809, St Andrews Holborn,
Amelia Margaret bap 20 Oct 1811 St Sepulchre,
Thomas William bap 14 May 1815 Clerkenwell,
Sidwell bap 15 Nov 1818.

I've found a marriage 9 June 1806 St Anne, Soho of William Suxspeach and Fanny Hawkins.

My Sophia and Richard Wright had a daughter, Frances Hawkins Wright, listed as Fanny on 1851 census, in 1849 and baptised at St John's Hoxton which made me think this was the right family and the girl was named for her grandmother.

All of the Suxspeach children - Frances, Amelia, Sophia, Thomas and Sidwell - were together admitted to the workhouse in 1823 in Camden St Giles in the Fields and then seem to be in and out over the next few years.

What's confused me is a death for Sophia Suxpeach age 27 in Mar Qtr 1838, Shoreditch 2 / 348 which seems to be Sophia Suxpeach who died in the same workhouse age 27 on 2nd June 1838 and was buried 6th June 1838. It's a slightly different spelling and I can't find any siblings in the workhouse at the same time so should I assume this is a different Sophia Suxpeach? I can't find a baptism to show there were 2 Sophia Suxspeach/Suxpeach of the same age from the same area. I want to believe I've found the right family but should I discount her and keep searching?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Thank you so much!

Norfolk / Searching for marriage Woods/Stimpson pre-1837
« on: Saturday 03 June 17 16:31 BST (UK)  »
I have a John Woods (coach painter, born 1817 Strumpshaw to Mary and John Woods), who married Mary Ann Stimpson (born 1813 Langley to Barzellai Stimpson and Frances Carver). The earliest child I can find is Georgiana Woods, born 16 April 1841. I cannot find a marriage in GRO indexes so I assume they married very young just before civil registration. Does anyone know how I go about finding a record of their marriage please if it's pre-1837? Or any advice for how to move forward e.g. to discover what Mary Woods' (wife of elder John Woods) maiden name was? Many thanks.

The Common Room / 1939 register
« on: Monday 13 June 16 22:54 BST (UK)  »
I've found my ggrandmother and ggrandfather in the 1939 national register in Norwich, Mary Ann and George Woods. However someone's crossed out her surname and written Fenn. She did later marry Sidney Fenn after my ggrandfather died, but not until 1945. So who would have had access to change this record and why on earth would they amend it years later? I am thoroughly confused!

Devon / 1803 baptism Devonport
« on: Sunday 26 January 14 23:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am wondering how to go about finding the baptism of James M Pycroft, born in 1803 in Devonport. Is this likely to have been Stoke Damerel parish? I wonder if anyone has any thoughts about how to locate the record as I don't know this area of the country at all and I don't know the church or the date.
Many thanks
