Wexford / Death and burial records
« on: Tuesday 04 February 20 13:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.  Once again I am on the ‘find my Walsh family’ trail.  My grandfather’s brother William died 1st quarter 1905.  I did send for the record but thought it was wrong one as he lived in Castlehill Street and record said The Swan so I thought I had wrong Walsh.  I am hoping someone has access to death records and I can perhaps find burial record once I have correct date of death.  Perhaps Williams burial place will lead me to my gt.grand parents records.  Here’s hoping, Anne.

Wexford / Thomas Murphy wexford
« on: Tuesday 19 September 17 12:24 BST (UK)  »
For years I have been searching for my Walsh side of family.  I now know Thomas Murphy married my gt.aunt Bridget Walsh and in 1901 census they lived in Slippery Green.  I believe one of their sons had a photographers shop on Main Street, Wexford Town.  Hoping someone from the Murphy family can finally shed light on my gt.grandfather John Walsh. Wexford / Lancastria
« on: Thursday 05 January 17 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
Because there is now more information available of sinking of the Lancastria, I wondered if anyone on the site had a family crew member on her.  My dad, Eddie Harpur sailed on her from 1930-38 then came "ashore" but as he was in RNR he was recalled to another ship in September 39. I know there were other crew members sailing with him from Wexford as he had a photo taken 1933 of Wexford scout trip to Rome and they asked for any crew from there to be on photo.  I think there were 3 others and dad.  I am hoping someone can say if they made it home or not.  I sent the pic to a Wexford paper and they printed it around 1990.  Anne

United States of America / Francis Walsh
« on: Saturday 12 September 15 13:27 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to trace family of my grandfather John Joseph Walsh who came from Wexford Town, Ireland.  thanks to another researcher on ancestry UK I was able to purchase his youngest brother Francis's RNR records.  Francis was born in King Street, Wexford August 1890, son of John Walsh and Mary Furlong.  He joined RNR in 1910 and it gives his address in 1931 as San Fransico.  Unfortunately it says address on reverse but the scan only shows front of record.  I am hoping that someone on this site, living in that area might have access to census records of that time.
Francis like his brother was 5'5" with blue eyes.  Maybe if I am really lucky he might sound familiar to one of the readers.  Here's hoping, Anne

Wexford / Captain Mark Higgins
« on: Saturday 19 January 13 12:53 GMT (UK)  »
On BBC Radio 4 this morning, they played part of interview with Mark Higgins.  He is now mid 90s and was talking about a sextant he bought in the early 1940s as a cadet with Smiths line in Cardiff.  He still has it and talks about it with such affection.   I saw Uncle Mark Shortly before Christmas when his wife Statia died.  His accent is still as strong even after all his years away from Wexford.  The programe was Saterday Live and he was on about 9.15am.  Really worth a listen. Wexford / Rattler Fortune
« on: Saturday 20 October 12 21:22 BST (UK)  »
I think Rattler has been mentioned in several posts and I have heard there is to be a book on his life story, which should be an interesting read.  His granddaughter is doing a book launch on 1st November in Book Centre on Main Street.  From all I have heard of him, he was quite a charactor.  I am looking forward to reading it, he is after all my username.  Anne

Lancashire / studio photographs
« on: Friday 17 August 12 14:23 BST (UK)  »
I found a thread today on Victorian photos and one of the names mentioned was Jerome.  I wondered if there is a collection anywhere of photos taken at the Jerome studio in Liverpool in the early to mid 1900s.  We lost Mum and Dad's wedding photos which were taken in a studio as it was a cold November day.  There was another well known studio in Liverpool but the name escapes me.  Anne

Wexford / HMS Nelson
« on: Sunday 29 July 12 19:01 BST (UK)  »
This was taken mid 1930s I think.  Dad was sailing on Lancastria, so this must have been a friend from Wexford who was serving on HMS Nelson.  Probably when both ships were at same port somewhere.  Hope someone can put a name to the face.  Anne

I am trying to contact my cousin who originally lived in Potters Bar but is now in the Luton area I am told.  Hoping that the surname rings a bell with someone.  Anne
