Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / image upload problem
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 23:54 BST (UK)  »
Well it seems the uploading of images to Rootschat is still a problem and I have no idea of how long this situation is going to last. So, to work around this problem you can upload your images to one of the many free photo-hosting sites and then link to them with the BBC tags.  [ img]..[/img ]

Here is a link to a site that has a list of free image hosting service
http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-image-hosting.php

If you have used a free image-hosting site, feel free to give your comments on their service and if it’s not on the list above, please post a link.

For a full explanation of how to use BBC tags, see Berlin-Bobs excellent tutorial on this subject. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,130922.0.html

Please feel free to add to this topic if you have questions or answers for anyone who is having trouble with this workaround.

Have a listen to 6 November 2005 episode of the Genealogy Guys Podcast, If you click the little Icon you should be able to get the show to stream to your computer. The guys do a section on dating photographs. You might want to listen to some or all of their podcasts as they cover a lot of subjects relating to genealogy in general.

Here's another podcast you might want to listen to.

Australia Lookups completed / McManus Ireland to Australia circa 1890
« on: Saturday 12 November 05 00:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on 3 brothers who emmigrated from Ireland in the late 1800's. Their parents were Thomas and Bridget McManus from Ardnanure, Ireland. The only other information that I have on them is:
Owen McManus apparently died of fever and ague in either Cooktown, Qld or Thursday Island
Thomas apparently came to Australia (?where) but contact was lost with the family.
William came to Charters Towers in Qld
Their sister Bridget (my GGmum) also went to Charters Towers and married Owen McCooey there in 1892.
I don't know if they all travelled from Ireland together or separately.
Any info on them would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I realise that the photograph is washed out pretty badly, I will give you a bit of history of the photograph,it was in my forebears house during the last war and they were bombed out by German Bombers twice the first time pretty badly, they searched high and low to recover some of their posessions, they found the tin box that contained their personal papers including photographs squashed underneath six foot of rubble, the second time the bomb blew part of the house away and they found their tin box two blocks away with the contents strewn about the road, hence the very bad  state of the photograph.

So let's see how much can be recovered.
