The Common Room / School Admission's Register Reason For Leaving
« on: Tuesday 27 September 16 09:57 BST (UK)  »
The reason for leaving given on my ancestor's record is given as "PDAC."   There are many repeats of this entry for other children, same with leaving dates, some without.   Going through the pages further along there are clues that this could be a proficiency certificate, but if so does anyone know what the D and A might mean.

Many thanks in anticipation.

« on: Friday 04 September 15 06:53 BST (UK)  »
Hoping some car enthusiasts might be able to tell me what type of car this is.  All I know is that my grandfather was a chauffeur driving it in the 1920s, early 1930s.   With many thanks.

Armed Forces / Church Lads Brigade Uniform Question!
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 08:06 GMT (UK)  »
Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I thought as the CLB was so linked to the Army it was the best place.

I know this officer is definitely Church Lads Brigade circa 1911/12 so no concerns there but if anyone can tell me what his rank is I would be very grateful.

Armed Forces / Help understanding Royal Naval Record
« on: Thursday 18 September 14 10:52 BST (UK)  »
I am quite happy with deciphering all the details of my man's RN record.  However, I do not understand why one ship is named and then there is another ship's name in brackets beside it.

For example:

Titania (Marazion)
Ambrose (Marazion)

I know these are submarine depot ships serving on China Station in the 1920's.  I just do not understand why the Marazion is in brackets.

Any help appreciated.

I have ancestors on the 1841 census living at ''Row'', Ellingham, nr Bungay.     Would anyone with local knowledge know if this ''Row'' is likely to be what is now referred to as ''Kirby Row''?

Thanks.
