Cambridgeshire / Death certificate - Linton
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 01:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to purchase a copy of a death certificate for an ancestor of mine.
I have the following information from FreeBMD (via Ancestry)

Name: James Brown
Quarter: Oct-Dec
Place: Linton, Cambridgeshire
Death Date: Dec 1837
Vol: 14
Page: 49

However, when I go to GRO to order the certificate, no match is found so, therefore, I am unable to order it.

Does anyone here know if the certificate may be available from a records office in Cambridgeshire itself .. and be able to point out how I reach it? (I'm in Australia so am unable to visit in person).
Many thanks,
Sandra

Cambridgeshire / Horner DELLER - 1845
« on: Tuesday 02 May 23 00:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I hoping someone may be able to help me locate the civil death record for Horner DELLER who was buried in Kingston, Cambridgeshire on 28th July 1845.
I have him in the 1841 census and have been able to locate his burial record on both FamilySearch (where he is recorded 3 times under slightly different first names) - as 'Henry', 'Horny' and 'Herny' DELLER.
FindMyPast records his burial under the name 'Henry' DELLER.
What I am unable to find, however, is a civil death record which, given the year, I thought I should be able to locate. I have tried many variations of both first and last name with no success.
I would be very grateful if someone was able to assist or advise me.
Thank you.

Leicestershire / Private baptisms - LUTTERWORTH
« on: Tuesday 31 August 21 07:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I live in Australia but have ancestors who lived in Lutterworth.
I am hoping someone might be able to help me.

My 3x great-grandfather (at least I think it's him) was baptised in Lutterworth on 10th December 1788. In looking at the images on 'Find My Past', I notice that many / most of the baptisms held around that time, were conducted 'privately' - many more than I have normally seen in other parishes and counties.

Is anyone aware of a particular reason for this? (No minister, no church, an exceptionally poor parish??)

The ancestor in question was Thomas VEARS (recorded as VERES) - his father was James and mother, Mary.
Many thanks,
Sandra

United States of America / Civil War record for Isaac W FOX
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 04:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for advice on where I might go to find some information on someone who fought and died in the American Civil War. The soldier's name was Isaac W FOX and he was part of the 12th New Jersey Infantry I division). At the time of his death, Isaac was a corporal.

Isaac was born in approx 1835 in Salem, NJ. He married Sarah E WALTON (my 3x great-aunt) in 1854 in NJ.

I believe Isaac died on 17th June 1864 in Petersburg and was buried in the Poplar Grove National Cemetery in Virginia (after originally having been buried at 'Webb's Farm'). He left behind his wife and two young daughters, Joanna and Melvina.

I live in Australia and don't know what records might be available to research (hopefully on-line) so would appreciate any advice.

Thank you,
Sandra

Buckinghamshire / William PAXSON - St Mary's MARSH GIBBON
« on: Monday 27 April 20 05:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Many family trees give the baptism of my 8x great-grandfather, William PAXSON (son of James and Jane PAXSON/PAXTON), as 21st December 1648 at St Mary's Church, Marsh Gibbon. (another 6 siblings also recorded in the same church).

I can't find any of these baptisms on the usual on-line databases.

Can anyone suggest where I might look (bearing in mind that I live in Australia) to locate the baptism record of William?
Many thanks.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Shittleton Hill
« on: Friday 27 December 19 03:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping that someone may be able to tell me where Shittleton Hill is or was located?

I have the birth / christening record of Hannah SPENCER who was born on 19th May 1809. The record states that her parents, Thomas and Deborah, were from Shittleton Hill. I think it was near Clayton but can't find anything more.
Thanks.

United States of America / Sarah C Walton - death SALEM, NEW JERSEY 1887
« on: Wednesday 19 September 18 06:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My 3x great-grandmother, Sarah C WALTON (née SCHOCH) was living at 26 1/2 Hedge St, Salem, New Jersey when she died on 22nd January 1887 - aged 75.

Her death certificate (which I have a copy of) states she was buried in the Baptist Cemetery, Salem.

Would anyone be able to tell me whether this cemetery still exists and how I might go about contacting them to see if they hold any further information.

Thank you

Cornwall / Shipwreck 1887 - Barremen
« on: Friday 17 August 18 08:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to help a friend find some information on a shipwreck that occurred in mid 1887 off the coast of Cornwall, in which an ancestor of hers, Donald McKinley, was killed. The ship in question was the Barremen or Barreman.

I have found a few vague mentions but nothing, at all, substantial. I was hoping that someone here might be able to assist.

Many thanks.
