Essex / mustard factory in West Ham
« on: Sunday 12 March 17 15:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, according to the 1911 census,  my Great x3 Grandmother,  and her siblings are all working (those old enough) in a Mustard Factory.  They live in Geere Road, West Ham,  so I presume that the factory would be relatively local to them.  Does any one know where the factory was, or any information about it? I have searched on line and have found lots about other factories, but not a Mustard Factory!

I'd be grateful if anyone does have info they could share! thanks in advance.

The Common Room / completed with thanks! Florence Daisy Candler, nee Ling
« on: Sunday 16 November 14 18:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,  I've located my Great Grandfathers military records, which contained details of his marriage, and my Grandfathers existence.  This was not new info, but nice to see physical description of him, and his service.  What was new, is that his record states that on enlistment in 1915, that he was a widower,  his next of kin changed from my Great Great Grandfather, to my Great Grandmother, and the marriage, and my Grandfathers birth was added, in 1917.  This sent me off on a hunt for Mrs Candler, no 1.  I have found what appears to be the marriage record, of John Edward Candler, to Florence Daisy Ling, in 1909.  I have searched every which way I can, but cannot locate a death record for Florence.  John marries Edith Gertrude Levell in 1917.  Can any of you clever bods find a death for Florence please?

thanks!

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / profiles
« on: Saturday 05 January 13 22:03 GMT (UK)  »
hi, I've not been on for AGES, it would seem that somehow, I have two accounts with similar user names.... not sure how I did this, it would appear that I created the 2nd account in July 12... I was having some trouble logging in then, and think I inadvertently did it then. I posted a query earlier from the second account, and have looked at the FAQs etc, but can't see any way of merging, or deleting account 2, without losing todays post.  is this possible? thanks

Armed Forces / US Army
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 21:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  not sure where to start looking for the information I am after - so figured Roots was the place to come!!!!  Am wondering where I can find information about who would own some land.  During "the War" it was given/lent/commendered by the US Army,  they built a bridge over a ford, which is now maintained by the local council.  Some of the land that borders on the river appears to belong to no one now.  Does anyone have any idea about where I start trying to find out what happened to the land when the US Army left the area?  thanks,

World War One / Theater of War
« on: Monday 06 July 09 11:47 BST (UK)  »
Apologies if this has been asked - and answered before,  I'm sure I've read something previously, but cannot find it! My Great, Great Uncle never came home from WW1 - I found his details on the Commonwealth War Graves Commision, and know his memorial is in Vie-en-Artois.  I found his details on A******* which say he was Killed in Action (as expected)  then says "Theater of War - Aldershot".....am confused.  Can someone with more knowledge of these records please explain this to me!  thanks,  ???
