Lancashire / Old map expert required Heaton Park Manchester
« on: Friday 01 July 22 17:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi

In need of help, I have in the past seen a circa WW1 map of Heaton Park showing a gun range (rifle) from the golf course to near the golly pond at the back of the park.
I have checked all my images and checked a couple of website but cannot find it.
The location is in the area of the pheasantry in this map.

Any help much appreciated as it is doing my head in

Hi

Does anybody know of any grave location plans for Agecroft Cemetery. I am not paying £2.50 to Deceased online when on the second line to the T&C's says this  "NOTE THAT ACCORDING TO MAP TYPE THE EXACT GRAVE LOCATION MAY NOT BE SHOWN"

If anyone can pin point CofE 21 grave 783 it would be most appreciated, I did go looking on Sunday and found 1 of 2 I am looking for.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1881 Census help
« on: Friday 26 November 21 13:56 GMT (UK)  »
I now regret telling a friend I have paid one months subs on findmypast just help me clear some research rust before the 1921 census gets out.

I have tried to search with variants on FindmyPast also familysearch but cannot locate these people in the 1881 census.

I have them with a name variant on the 1891 census, also have them on the 1901, 1911 and 1939 register, but pulling my hair out on the 1881, not that I have any.

What have I missed? the surname is Callaghan and this list is from the 1891 census, I have removed the children that were born after 1881. James & Jane were born in Liverpool, but the kids are from Salford/Manchester.

James Callagham Head Married   Male   52 1839   Bassinett maker   -
Jane   Callagham   Wife   Married   Female   35   1856   -   -
Edward Callagham   Son   Single                  Male   14   1877   Telegraph messenger   -
Mary Jane Callagham   Daughter   -   Female   13   1878   -   -
John Callagham                  Son   -                  Male   11   1880   Scholar
39 Peel Street, Pendleton, Salford

Any suggestion very welcome, like I say I am rusty and probably missed something blindingly obvious.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / William Evans b1840
« on: Monday 11 October 21 17:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks

Can anybody help find William Evans born 1840 or 1842 on the 1851 & 1861 census please.
Q4 1840 Shrewsbury Volume 18 Page 175 or Q4 1842 Shrewsbury Volume 18 Page 165.

I have him from 1871 up to his death in 1899 living and working in Heaton Park, Prestwich, Manchester.

1871 - William Evans – Head – Aged 29 - Born 1842 – Male – From Blodwell, Shropshire.

Llanyblodwel is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England; the spelling "Llanyblodwell" was commonly used in the past, and the village was sometimes simply referred to as "Blodwel". Salop is an old name for Shropshire, historically used as an abbreviated form for post or telegrams

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Searching for a Marriage
« on: Sunday 03 October 21 12:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks

Sorry I don't have any active subs so only using freebmd and familysearch but I do have census data for the period I am after.

1871 Census - William Evans – Head – Unmarried - Aged 29 - Born 1842 – Male – From Blodwell, Shropshire (Coachman Living in Heaton Park over the Stables)

1881 Census - William Evans – Head - Married - Aged 37 – Born 1844 – Male – Position held Coachman (Coachman The Kennels Heaton Park) – From Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Sarah Evans – Wife – Married – Aged 32 – Born 1849 – Female – From Bowdon, Cheshire

It is the marriage between William and Sarah I am trying to find.

Familysearch - I have found one in 1870 William Evans - Aged 29 - Coachman to a Sarah Leigh A Aged 23 at St Johns Church Deansgate Manchester.

Everything tells me this is the couple but the 1870 census and the marriage year don't line up. Could he have lied to get the Coachman's job at Heaton Park?

I am well rusty on this hunting so really after your thoughts and ideas in my hunt.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Strange entry in the birth register
« on: Friday 01 October 21 14:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I am doing some research work for the "The Friends of Heaton Park" group and have this marriage but was trying to locate their offspring.

Julia Evans Married John William Morrill at St Margaret’s Church 8th February 1910 she was still living at Station Lodge, Heaton Park and he was from Hale, Cheshire at the time. This info is from the actual church register.

I have come across a strange entry on Freebmd - only one with them surnames. But why was it wrote like this female?

Births Jun 1912  Morrill    Female    Evans    Bucklow    8a   294

I can only assume they had this one un-named child.

Hi

I am looking for WW1 camp maps used in Heaton Park, Manchester as I am going to do some research on the 1st & 2nd City Battalions Manchester Regiment "PALS" and Heaton Park was the place they trained and left for the front from, along with other Regiments.

There are loads of WW2 but I keep drawing a blank on WW1

Any help much appreciated
