Armed Forces / WW2 HMS Indefatigable R.S.Clarke
« on: Friday 14 August 20 19:20 BST (UK)  »
Any help would be so appreciated.
My husbands grandad Roland Sidney Clarke (Nobby Clarke) born 1923 in Leicester, Served on the hms indefatigable towards the end if WW2 we think as a petty officer or something electrical as he was an electrician after the war. The only things he mentioned was sitting on a beach in Australia and the Japanese planes hitting the deck. Never ever talked about it. Both Roland and his grandma died over 20 years ago, along with most of the family now. With next to nothing to go on, how would we go about finding out his service number, where he went, we also think he had medals but never applied for them.
I know its a long shot, but any help would be greatly received.  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Hobart - Ireland
« on: Saturday 18 May 19 18:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I have been doing some research for my dads friend, as he knows nothing of his dads family. All he has is his dads birth certificate and a story of how he fled to England from the Irish army? but he doesn't know when that was and he died in Leicester in 2008. His birth certificate says he was born Michael Hobart 1926 castlegregory, Ireland to parents Liam hobart and bridget Ashe. I think James hobart and Catherine walshe were liam/William's parents but I can't find anything of there births, marriage or deaths. I found a few brothers and sisters of William but it looks like a few ended up in America and a few in hammersmith London, not sure if any stayed in Ireland or how many there were but it's very hard to find strong leads. Ultimately the goal is to find any living relatives possibly cousins for him to speak too.
Thank you in advance to anyone how can help or advise where to look. :)

World War Two / WW2 Royal Artillery William Greaves
« on: Sunday 20 October 13 22:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything of my grandad William Greaves in WW2. From what i remember he was a WO ll in the Royal Artillery 70th Field 46th Division (North Midland). I know he had medals but I don't know which ones. He was in North Africa and Italy. But I was wondering if any one had any photos, stories or just anything else to bring his character to life.

Many Thanks,
Shell

Family History Beginners Board / Help! Susan Hernden, Grimsby.
« on: Thursday 16 August 12 17:51 BST (UK)  »
I can find no record of my great grandmother's birth. I have my grandmothers birth certificate Clarice Harding born Leicester 1928. Her father was Harry Harding (found his family). Her mother states Susan Chase formerly Hernden, born Grimsby abt 1891. I have found both marriage references both to Sidney Chase in Caistor and my great grandad Harry Harding in Caistor. But nobody knows who Susan's mum and dad were or where the Hernden name came from? Can anyone please help. There were rumors in the family that he came from Goa? but I'm not sure and have no one left in the family to ask. Also I can not afford to buy the marriage certificates as her father might not be on them.

Any help would be brilliant.

Leicestershire / Topliss/Rudkin
« on: Friday 03 April 09 21:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am researching the Topliss/Rudkin surnames in the same family - but, being as it is in the 1930 / 1950 time period, there is a possibility that some of them are still living.

My nanna was Jean Lilian Topliss and my grandad was Sidney Rudkin, both born Leicester.

If you can help, please private message me

Thanks
