Australia / Convicts to Western Australia
« on: Sunday 28 July 19 05:44 BST (UK)  »
As a volunteer project for the East Perth Cemeteries website, I have written biographies for the following convicts who were transported to Western Australia.

William Rhodes 1820-1891 Convict No. 1498
George Steel 1824-1865 Convict No.282
John Richards 1823-1897 Convict No. 453
John Sellinger or Salinger 1832-1906 Convict No. 2400
George Ryder or Rider 1824-1889 Convict No. 972
Joseph Ledger or Sowden 1824-1895 Convict No. 7551

I am happy to share these stories if it will help anyone in their research. :)

Australia / Register of Immigrants early 1920s
« on: Thursday 30 May 19 00:46 BST (UK)  »
I was viewing a 1923 Register of Immigrants at the State Records Office in Western Australia and wondered if anyone could tell me what the reference numbers against each name mean and also the initials N and NP. The numbers were not consecutive and not many entries had the letters. The staff at the SRO didn't know, so I'm hoping somebody here might.

Caithness / Where is Essvarisdale?
« on: Wednesday 18 October 17 04:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I have two birth records of William b 1792 and James Mackay b 1787 whose parents were William Mackay and Cath. Campbell. The births were registered in Reay and says they were from Essvarisdale. Does anybody know where that place is please? I cannot find on any old maps with it named and Google doesn't know either. I guess it must be fairly close to Reay. Can anybody help?

Hello rootschatterers,

I'm looking for information on the death of Eliza Cooke (nee Ward) who died in December 1993 registered Blackpool and Fylde.  She was married to Arthur Cooke in 1944 and previously to Charles Brown Filshie in 1936.

I'm yet to find a death notice for her or where she was buried/cremated. Any information would be greatly received.  ;D Many thanks Maggie

Lanarkshire / Charles Brown Filshie death
« on: Thursday 13 July 17 07:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello you lovely researchers! You've helped me in the past and hope you can do so again. I'm looking for the death of Charles Brown Filshie born 1910 in Gorbals Lanarkshire. He moved to Sunderland in 1936 when he married Eliza Ward (born 1913) that year. I have not been able to find out when he died, but I know his wife remarried in 1944 to Arthur Cooke stating that she was a widow. I have looked at deaths on Scotlandspeople, Ancestry and Findmypast, along with the Forces of War website. I've also looked for death records in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, all to no avail. Is there anybody who can help with finding his record of death? ???

« on: Tuesday 11 July 17 02:31 BST (UK)  »
Hello you kind people. Is there anyone who has access to the Toronto Telegram Obits of 1941? There is an entry for a Lillian Filshie which I'd like the transcription if possible. I'm sorry but I don't know the date... I'm in Perth Western Australia and believe this newspaper is on microfilm only. Thanks in advance! Maggie ;D
