Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA to solve brickwalls?
« on: Friday 16 June 23 13:50 BST (UK)  »
As I spend a lot of time stuck on my wifes brickwall (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=873740.0) and mine (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=873730.0).  I wondered if DNA could provide answers? Though my knowledge of this area is very basic. Is it correct to say, say via Ancestry DNA, that if my wife has a connection with the same surname (Mortimer in this case). With no connection in their current trees or obvious connections, it might worth tracing their tree down to maybe demolish my wifes brickwall?

We both have family stories (hers Roger Mortimer and mine Dafydd ap Mathew) that I would like to prove or disprove.

I am happy to obleige to solve some brickwalls. I have experience as I  stumbled across many brickwalls myself, such as Denmark, Germany, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Canada, United States, and Poland.

If I cannot solve them, I will provide you with as much information as posible.

Europe / Richard Mathew
« on: Thursday 15 June 23 22:34 BST (UK)  »
Ancestry keeps suggesting Richard Mathew, who died 1 Aug 1610 in Vienna, as the father of my ancestor Edward Mathew (lived in Wiltshire). Based on another members tree. I have.asked them for the source but no reply. Maybe a long shot but has anybody got evidence of the death mentioned above? Is there anything to suggest he was from England?

I want to put locations for my ancestors onto a Google Map for days out visiting certain areas. Currently I'm manually putting them in. Does anyone know of a quicker process to export out of Legacy Family Tree onto a map?

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Richard Gardiner / Gardner in Sapperton
« on: Tuesday 07 February 23 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have a Richard Gardiner marrying Elizabeth Shipway in Sapperton on 13 Nov 1794. I cant find a Richard being baptised in Sapperton. I do have the following children all in Sapperton:

1 Richard Gardiner (1795- )
2 Thomas Gardiner (1797-1885)
3 Hannah Gardiner (1799- )
4 Abraham Gardiner (1801- )
5 Isaac Gardiner (1803- )

I have an image of a grave in Bisley with Richard Gardner (died 16 Nov 1847). But buried with a Sarah and Peter. Could it be the same Richard?

Pembrokeshire / Mortimer baptism in Steynton
« on: Monday 06 February 23 16:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

There is a baptism in Steynton, Pembrokeshire for a son baptised 27 October 1771. Father is Philip Mortimer. The image is really bad or worn. Anyone got better eyes than me?  :-\  Or access to the register locally?

Occupation Interests / Apprentice in "fourth year of his articles"
« on: Sunday 21 November 21 13:03 GMT (UK)  »
I've just come across a newspaper article for a run away apprentice. It says "my Indentrued Apprentice, in the fourth year of his articles, has absconded without any just cause"

Does articles mean the apprentice was in the fourth year of his apprenticeship?

Lanarkshire / Philip Mortimer
« on: Friday 19 November 21 12:57 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Philip Mortimer but cant trace him further back (a major brick wall for me). Another person was tracing a Philip Mortimer in Glasgow (see: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=484300.msg3427102), I cant prove mine is the same Philip Mortimer as the one mentioned in the linked page. I was wondering if anyone has details of the Philip in Glasgow that would rule him out as mine?

This is what I know of mine:

1796-1799: Philip Mortimer joins the Pembrokeshore Militia as a substitute from St.Davids parish.
1796: Philip marries Ann Fitt in Norfolk. He is mentioned as being in the Pembrokeshore Militia.
1800: His son James is baptised in Plymouth. The Pembrokeshore Militia are stationed there at this time.

I then have no record of him. I know the Pembrokeshore Militia are in Ballinasloe, Ireland between 1811-1813. I think his wife Ann dies in 1835 in Bitton, an area where his son James is living.
