Tyrone / John King of Omagh.
« on: Friday 06 January 23 15:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
my G/G Grandfather John King was married in Glasgow in 1860 aged 20, on his marriage cert his father is listed as Felix King, labourer, his mother is listed as Anne King M.S. Mckay.
John applied for poor relief in 1879 giving his birthplace as Omagh Co Tyrone, but that's as much as i can find for his place of birth, i searched for his father on Griffiths, there are three Felix Kings listed but all three are in Cavan, one in Killishandra and two in Belturbert, there isn't a huge distance between Omagh and Belturbert as the crow flies, i'm just wondering if there's a link? or am i clutching at straws.

Derry (Londonderry) / James Doherty, Derry, Derry.
« on: Thursday 22 December 22 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I've been trying for a few years to find the birthplace of my great Grandparents James Doherty and Margaret Gallagher, thanks to the recent release of the Scottish 1921 Census I have discovered my G/Grandmothers place of birth is listed as Cornamucklagh County Monaghan, my G/Grandfathers place of birth is listed as Derry, Derry.
I'd like to find out what part of the city he was from but as he had a very common name for the north west I'm kinda stuck again for a birthplace.

His parents are listed on his Marriage cert (1879) in Glasgow as John Doherty, farmer, deceased, and Agnes O Donnell, formerly Doherty, Maiden name Doherty.

Any help or advice is appreciated.
                   Regards, John.

Lanarkshire / Thomas Connor of Bridgeton.
« on: Thursday 22 December 22 19:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I'm trying to establish the birthplace of Thomas Connor,
he is listed in the 1901 census as living in 51 Dale street Bridgeton, age 39, born in Ireland, wife Bridget, Daughters Annie and Heather?
I can't seem to find the family in later census returns,
I was hoping to find him in the 1921 census to establish a more detailed place of birth and to tie up a few loose ends in this part of my research.
I found a record of his Marriage to Bridget in 1898, and also a mention in the 1881 census when he was living with his parents in Reid street Bridgeton.
Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Technical Help / can't download file.
« on: Tuesday 21 January 20 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I've been downloading photographic images onto a wildlife forum for quite a while, they have to be under 1mb so I go to a resizing site to enable me to post the file on the forum.
I haven't been able to do this since yesterday.
previously I click on the browse button, a window opens allowing me to select and open the folder I want and then select the file to be downloaded for resizing.
now when I click on the browse button, the window opens, the folders are there,i can open the one I want, but can't choose a file, whenever I move the cursor to select a file the window changes back to the list of folders, I've tried it countless times to no avail.
apologies if my terminology is a bit ropey. ::)
