Staffordshire / Help finding Caroline Petford
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a baptism record for Caroline Petford she was married in 1841 at Pensnett and lived much of her life on Tansey Green Road,  I believe she was the daughter of John Petford and was born sometime between 1822 and 1826 (which i know makes her only 15 when she married but she maintains a consistent age through later census up to her death).  She married Joseph Bailey  they are my 4 x great grandparents.

I believe her father John Petford was born around 1785 / 95 in Alcester variously sited as being in Warwickshire and Staffordshire (boundaries change).

In later census's Caroline states that she was born in Sedgley and Brierley Hill, I have found no record of her in the 1841 census but suspect that the enumerators recorded her as Caterine Petford aged 19 however its an unprovable point unless i find baptismal records for Caroline and her sisters that tie in with that particular census entry.

Any help would be appreciated

Worcestershire / Hubberton or Overton Help Please?
« on: Saturday 29 May 10 11:11 BST (UK)  »

Is anyone visiting the Dudley archives anytime soon?   if you are and don't mind making a quick look up of the marriage register for 1834 St Thomas Dudley  I need to confirm this entry:

Thomas Jenks + Phebe Hubberton 29 Dec.1834 St Thomas Dudley

My 3x great grandparents Thomas Jenks and Pheber Overton were married around this time i can find no other marriage that even vaguely fits, so i was hoping that the name may have been mis-transcribed or that perhaps one of the wittnesses was an Overton - its clutching at straws a bit I know but this is my brickwall and i really need to break it down.

Thomas and Phebe lived first in Toll End Tipton before moving to Pensnett, from the various census I know Thomas was born in Bilston and Phebe was born in Tipton so I would have expected them to be married in Tipton but St Thomas Dudley is all I can find.

Any help would be really appreciated as i live miles away and am diabled so cannot get there.
Thank you
Barry

« on: Thursday 27 May 10 12:30 BST (UK)  »

I am hoping someone can help me locate the baptism and parents of Phebe or Phoebe Overton or Ouerton the spellings vary!  she was born in 1815 or within a year of then in Tipton according to the 1851 Census she married Thomas Jenks (aternatively spelt Jinks and Jonks on various records) and is my 3 x great grandmother.

The family lived in Tipton and had four children there Sophia, Rhoda, Elizabeth known as Betsy and John before moving to Pensnett where they had Phebe, Thomas and Hannah who is my 2 x great grandmother.

I have found Phebe's Husband's parents but cannot trace Phebe any help would be greatly appreciated.

Warwickshire / Help with Ann Gibbs circa 1772 Warwick
« on: Friday 02 April 10 14:51 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help please I beleive my 4x gt grandmother may have been born in Warwick around 1772 her name was Ann Gibbs and her I believe her father was William Gibbs her mother may have been Martha Tennant who married William in Warwick on 26th June 1775   it is possible that Ann's mother died in the years between her birth and William's marriage to Martha Tennant it is also possible that Ann was born before they were married in which case Ann may well have been baptised with the name Tennant to a single woman.

Does anyone have access to Warwick parish registers for the time to check out these possibilities for me please?

Thank you

Barry

Breconshire Lookup Requests / Llanfihangel Talyllyn parish record look up
« on: Saturday 20 February 10 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone with access to St Michael's Talyllyn parish records please look up for me the baptism of Margaret Powell she would have been born around 1828 the daughter of John and Margaret Powell,  I beleive that Margaret was most probably their youngest child as they are both listed on the 1841 census in their 60's when Margaret was just 13.    Niether John nor Margaret snr appear on the 1851 so a look up of their burials on the same register would help me in tracking down their death certificates too please, and to complete the story on John and Margaret it would be nice to find a marriage for them too which could be any time from 1800 0nwards.

My final request and i know i am asking alot so a very big thank you to anyone who takes on the search - is could someone please look out the baptism of Sarah Powell Margaret jnr's daughter Sarah's birth certifcate gives her date of birth as 15th February 1851 i am hoping there might possibily be a mention of the father as there is not one on the bith certificate.

Who ever picks up my request and runs with it thank you very much it would fit a final piece to a long jigsaw that i am running out of time to complete

Thank you

Canada / Help identifying Cloth Manufacturers in Bolton Ontario 1913
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
In 1913 my 2xgreat granddad and his second wife emigrated to  Canada bound for Bolton Ontrario where he had secured a job as a weaver.   He was 57 years old at the time and since he came from Dewsbury / Batley in the West Riding of Yorkshire I imagine he was bound for a woollen cloth manufacturer in Bolton Ontario, does anyone have any reference to such a manufacturer that would be advertising for staff through the Embarkation Offices that were to be found in the UK at that time?

Can anyone point me to a good reference site for how the first world war impacted Canada too?

Thank you
Barry
