I have posted a few comments on the work, but there are so many of you who I havent, so this is for you all!

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1911 census look up please.
« on: Sunday 24 January 10 17:42 GMT (UK)  »

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could be so kind to do a look-up for me of my Great Great Grandfather on the 1911 census please.

His name was Samuel Sharpe.  He was b 1859 Bethnal Green.

Im hoping he is in Norwood, Croydon at an address in Beulah Road with his wife Minnie Sharpe.

I would love to know if he is connected to the Shaftesbury Society at this time in his life.

Any info would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello,

I cannot find a death record for Benjamin Sharpe and wondered if anyone can find one for me.

He was born 29 March 1835, Bethnal Green and baptised 7 May 1837 at St Matthews.

I have him on the 1871 census with his family
(RG10/620/17, page 29).
His wife Louisa ms Howard,  re-married on 20 November 1878 to Joseph Cornelius Morris. (Her status on this marriage cert said widower).

I have therefore narrowed his death between 1871 and 1878.

Any help on this would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

London and Middlesex / Mary Ann Sharpe, Bethnal Green
« on: Sunday 13 September 09 11:42 BST (UK)  »

Hi Roots chatters,

I have got stuck with 2 parts of my Great x 5 Grandmothers life.

Her name is Mary Ann Sharpe, b 15 April 1795 Bethnal Green.  She m Samuel Sharpe 1 Jan 1824 Bethnal Green.  She died 7 July 1871 in The French Hospital, Hackney.

I have her death cert which states she was the "Widow" of George Sharpe, Weaver.
She must have re-married after her 1st husband Samuel died.  He, Samuel, died on 6 Feb 1850 at 10 Wellington Row, BG.

My 1st question is...Can any kind sole find a marriage for Mary Ann and George?

(The complicated matter is that all my ancestors seemed to be called Sharpe!!!  Mary Ann's maiden name was Sharpe, her 1st husband was Sharpe and her 2nd husband looks like a Sharpe too!!!)

I also cant locate her on the 1861 census, so that is the other part of her life I have missing.  If anyone can find her, I will be very grateful.

I have her on the 1841 census under the name "Tharpe", with her family.  I also have the 51 and 71.  Maybe the 1861 census will mention her new husband....I can but hope.

Many, many thanks

Scotland / What does this mean on a marriage cert?
« on: Monday 03 August 09 08:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a marriage certificate for my 3 x Great grandparents who were married 10 July 1840 in Kilmarnock.

It reads "William McMillan in Glencairn Square and Janet Mackie in Fulburn Lane, after Proclamation, the extract was called for."

This is all it says before going onto the next couple.  Can anyone tell me what the last bit means and is it right that no parents etc are recorded?

Many thanks

Ayrshire / Margaret McMillan nee Thomson
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 19:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi Roots chatters,

Im looking for details of Margaret Thomson. She was b anywhere between 1835 and 1842 in Symington, Ayrshire.
She married Robert Young McMillan 4 June 1869 in Kilmarnock.
I ordered her wedding cert from SP, but I found it extremely difficult to read,  therefore I was wondering if anyone can locate her on 1841, 51 or 61 census.
I think I have found the correct Margaret on the 1871, 81 and 91 census, living in Beith with Robert and their children William 1870, Robert 1871, George 1873, Maggie 1876, Jane 1879 and Alexander 1882.

Any info on her or any of this family, would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Antrim / Help needed with my Irish Ancestors please!
« on: Sunday 12 July 09 17:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi Roots Chatters,

I dont know where to start with my Irish ancestors and wondered if someone can point me in the right direction please.

James McMillan was my 3x Great Grandfather who was born in 1845, Co Antrim.  He married Ann Burns on 28 June 1872 at St Mgts Church, Johnstone, Paisley.

I have their marriage certificate and it gave the name of James' parents who were Charles McMillan and Ann McAuley.

I have no idea as to how I go about finding James' birth details and anything on his parents.

I would very much appreciate any help.

Many thanks
Hazel
