Cheshire Lookup Requests / LILIAN MAY ROBERTS - New Brighton, Wallasey
« on: Wednesday 03 November 10 22:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find the parents of Lilian May Roberts for a friend. Lilian May married John Ernest Clay in 1919 in Emmanuel Church, New Brighton, Wallasey. I got this from Free BMD & The Cheshire Births, Marriages, Deaths website.
I don't want to send for the marriage cert unless I really have to. I believe the Parish Records for 1919 to be still at the Church. I wondered if anyone could check them for me. Big ask I know!!!
The other thing is that  I found a death for a Lilian May Clay in 1962 aged 66. This would make her born c 1896. And there is a birth on FREE BMD & Cheshire BMD for a Lillian May Clay in 1896 in Birkenhead district. I wonder if her baptism is recorded anywhere.
Any help much appreciated - My friend is 87 years old, and Lilian May was her mother!
Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / STEAD in Mirfield & Thornhill
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 11:36 GMT (UK)  »
Benjamin STEAD was born Hopton, Mirfield in 1811 ( from censuses). According to IGI he was baptised in Mirfield 17 Mar 1811.
I can't find him ( for certain) on the 1851 census BUT on the 1861 census and beyond,  he is married to Sarah Ann ( born Bristol, Gloucestershire) and has children - Agnes born 1851 Thornhill, Elizabeth Ann born 1855 Thornhill, Hannah born 1857 Thornhill, Asa born 1859 Thornhill and  Alice born 1862 Thornhill. The 3 eldest's baptisms are on the IGI.
What I would really like to know is his wife's Maiden Name, as there are several marriages on Free BMD which might be correct.
Has anyone got access to the Thornhill PRS - could they, please, check for possible baptisms for the children, please, to see if the mother's maiden name is mentioned.
A definate marriage would be great too, ofcourse. Benjamin's father was Jonathan Stead ( I think).

Thanks

Other Countries / India: WRIGHT Nilgiris, India
« on: Monday 16 February 09 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi.
I am helping my sister in law with her research.
Her mother, Ruby ( WRIGHT / CRANE/ or MARTIN) was born in 1925 in India. She attended a school at Nilgiris which was run by nuns. Seemingly there was a place called Wellington Barracks. Ruby's mother was Beryl WRIGHT ( or maybe Sarah WRIGHT). Beryl had a son, Dudley,  before 1925 and his father may have been a Frank CRANE. Beryl married an Aubrey MARTIN and moved to England c1936 where they had several more children.

Beryl WRIGHT also had siblings Sarah, Alice, Minar and Percy ( who died young).

Please can anyone help with this family or point me in the right direction for future research?

Thanks

Cambridgeshire / NORMAN in March, Cambridgeshire
« on: Friday 24 October 08 11:30 BST (UK)  »
My GGG Grandad was James NORMAN born ( according to 1841 census and the age at his death) 1774. The 1841 census tells me he was born in Cambridgeshire. He married Ann DARLEY in 1799 in March Cambs.
I have the March Parish Records on CD and he doesn't appear to have been baptised in March.
There are 3 other NORMANs living in March who were born c1757-1769 and I wonder if they were James' brothers and maybe they all moved to March together. None of them seem to have been baptised in March.

Edward NORMAN who married Mary DICKERSON in March and he died in 1826 aged 69, so therefore born c 1757
Thomas NORMAN who may have married Mary STEVENS (widow) in 1814 and he died in 1838 aged 69, therefore born c 1769
William NORMAN who married Elizabeth ELDRIDGE in 1785, therefore probably born c1760

I am hoping that someone will recognise some of these names and be able to prove or disprove my theory. I am hoping it will help find James' parents.

Norfolk / Comparing signatures
« on: Tuesday 19 August 08 10:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have a quandry as I don't know whether it was Jonathan the elder, or his son Jonathan, who married Jane Holland nee Downing in 1812. I have lots of copies of signatures for the elder one and wondered if someone could compare them to the one on the marriage cert. I really need to know as it is a direct ancestor and will make the difference of a whole generation.
If anyone has the 'powers' to recognise subtle difference in signatures, could they please contact me with a personal message through rootschat and I'll send them copies of the signatures.
Thanks

Hello
According to census information, My G G Grandad, Thomas SCOTT was born c1797 in Haddenham.  I haven't got any further back on this side of the family tree, and wondered if anyone had access to the Haddenham Parish Registers and could see if he is listed, please.
Or if anyone thinks they may be linked - Thomas married Mary Bullen in Hilgay, Norfolk in 1821.

Cheshire / MAJOR - John and Ann - HASLINGTON
« on: Thursday 03 April 08 08:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find more information about my 3 G Grandparents, John and Ann MAJOR.
They had children,  Ellen, John, Thomas, George, Joseph and Samuel in Haslington from 1809 to 1823. According to the 1841 census they were from Cheshire and born c1791.
I have found a lot of MAJORs in nearby Acton and the same Christian names keep cropping up. I wonder if there could be a connection to my Haslington MAJORs.
So I am looking for a baptism of John Major 1787-1791 and a marriage of John Major to Ann ?? 1805 - 1809
I have found a  marriage of a John Major to an Ann Braidley in Wistaston in 1803 but I think that would be too early.
If anyone has any information I will be extremely happy.

Also, Does anyone know if it is  possible to buy Acton Parish records on microfiche?

Thanks for any help.
