Carmarthenshire / Looking for the baptism of Mary Williams in 1739

I am trying to find a record of baptism of Mary Williams my 5x great grandmother. She was the mother of the illegitimate children on Robert Colebrooke of Chilham Castle in Kent. After the last of their children were born in 1773 she married Dr. Robert Jones on 10 Sep 1782 at the Chapel of St Mary, Llanllwch, a chapelry of St Peter Carmathen, Wales. Both parties were said to be of the parish.

Mary died in Salisbury, Wiltshire on 11 Feb 1794 age 55, giving a year of birth of 1739. Mary's first child with Robert Colebrooke was Base Born (B B on the parish register of St. James Picadilly in London) and named Philip Charles Williams and baptised 12 Apr 1762 and born on 19 March 1762

I am speculating that as Mary and her husband Robert Jones may not have lived for a long time near Carmarthen, that they were possibly born their and this is why they chose to get married there.

Also I am speculating that Mary Williams may have named her first child after her father.

Any help to steer me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Kent / Looking for the house where Maj. Gen. James Bramham died in Greenwich in 1786

My 5th great grand father Maj. Gen. James Bramham was the Chief Engineer of the Royal Engineers in the Army when he died at his home in Greenwich on 11 Nov 1786. I don't know how old he was but I believe he was born in Yorkshire about 1720. He was buried on 20 Nov 1786 at St. Alfege's church in Greenwich. He was survived by his daughter Jane, and his brother Cuthbert (of Pontefract) and his nephew also James Bramham (son of his brother William Bramham deceased) who are all mentioned in his will.

Any help to identify where James Bramham lived in Greenwich would be very much appreicated.

Oxfordshire / Goody/Goodey family in Newnham Murren and Crowmarsh Gifford parish records

I am looking for greater detail, that may be in the original parish records, than is on the OFHS baptism and marriage indexes which I have on cd. The original records do not appear to be available online.

In particular I am seeking a baptism record for Richard Goody born in Mongwell and baptised in Newnham Murren in 1817. He is my 2nd great grandfather. I believe that Richard had a middle name of William and that his parents were Robert Goodey and Mary Brownjohn who were married in Newnham Murren on 9 Nov 1805. Robert Goody was I believe born and baptised in 1781 in Crowmarsh Gifford. Mary Brownjohn was I believe born and baptised in Kingsclere, Hampshire in 1788.

Does anyone have sight of the original parish records for Newnham Murren and Crowmarsh Gifford that could help me?

I am seeking some advice on people who wrote diaries which have since been published concerning high society and the "well to do" esepcially of the first half of the 1800's in London, Brighton and Ireland (Dublin and Cork in particular). This is to broaden my understanding of the lives of my ancestors who lived in these places that were of independent financial means at the time.

I am particularly interested in the Chelsea, Maida Vale, Paddington and Kilburn areas of London and the home counties surrounding London.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Can anyone tell me if there is a record on Innkeepers for the New Alresford area of Hampshire covering the later 1700s.

In 1758 (following the death of her husband Edward King), my 5th Great Aunt Elizabeth King (nee Garrett) married a John Collyer (Innholder which I presume means Innkeeper) in New Alresford. John Collyer died in 1766.

I am wondering if Elizabeth continued to manage an Inn following the death of her husband?

Any help would be gratefully appreicated.

I am seeking some help to find the parents and siblings of my 2nd great grandfather (Robert) Thomas Burnett who I believe was born in Montrose in 1778. The year is based upon his age of 81 given when he died in 1859. His place of birth is taken from his service record with the Royal Navy.

He became an able seaman with the navy on 2 Nov 1805 in Newcastle upon Tyne (I believe) when he joined the ship HMS Proselyte and served until 29 Jul 1805. His record appears to state that his name was Robert Thomas Burnett at this time, but that when he transferred to HMS Galatea on 30 Jul 1805 and from then onward he was known as Thomas Burnett.

The Royal Navy purchased the Newcastle collier Ramillies in June 1804 and commissioned her as HMS Proselyte in September 1804, having converted her to a 28-gun sixth rate in July and August.

As Thomas was an Able Seaman age about 26 at the start of his career with the Royal Navy and not an "ordinary" seaman, and not very young, I believe he already had seagoing experience possibly fishing or on colliers from Montrose or Newcastle. I have also read that the Royal Navy pressed experienced sailors from commercial ships at this time.

I have access to a number of paid family history websites but would appreciate advice from anyone experienced in searching for Scottish ancestors.

I am trying to find out more about the life of my 2nd great grandfather Thomas Burnett. According to his service record with the Royal Navy he was from Montrose, and according to his death certificate in 1859 he was age 81 and therfore born in 1778.

Scotland / Scottish Census records for John Mackenzie or Mckenzie

I am trying to help a friend, who was born in and lives in New Zealand, research his grandfather John Mackenzie's family history. My friend's father was not able to help. We have little to go on other than John Mackenzie was born in 1897 in Glasgow, exact date unknown. Apparently in 1925 John gave his next of kin as Agnes Munro.

I am looking for a census record for a John Mackenzie born in Glasgow in 1897 (I dont know the exact date) who later (in 1925) gave his next of kin (sister I believe) as Agnes Munro. according to my friend John's parents were William Mackenzie and his wife Mary.

I have looked at Scotlandspeople. I am not sure how to best use the website in a ordered way to cross reference the 1901 and 1911 census records to ensure I have the correct family.

Other members of the family include Ellis (who may have moved to America), Jean, Mary, Jim, Andy, Davie, George and Bill.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Europe / Trying to help my sister in law locate her German Ancestors.

My sister in law born was born in 1955 in Detmold, Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Her mother and father weren’t married. Her mother Ursula Hildegard Eickmeier was born on 10 Apr 1930 in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Ursula moved to live in England with her daughter a couple of years after my sister in law was born. Ursula met a young Englishman on military Service in Germany whom she married in 1957 in Rotherham.
According to my sister in law her grandmother Frieda Eickmeier also wasn’t married at the time her daughter Ursula was born. Freida married (to unknown) about 1940 and divorced after her husband, who fought on the Russian Front, returned in 1947.
Frieda’s daughter Ursula was living with her at the time of my sister in law’s birth. Freida later married Georg Theis.
My sister in law’s father was Walter Anton Meinlschmidt. He lived in Telgte around the time of my sister in law’s birth
My sister in law knows a little about her mother’s family history but nothing about her father’s family history.
I have tried ancestry and Family Search to try to discover my sister in laws ancestors without much success.
Any advice and help would be very much appreciated
