Ireland / O’Shea/ Gallagher Marriage
« on: Monday 28 September 20 16:23 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for the marriage of my 2xG Grandparents John O’Shea and Ellen Gallagher in Ireland about 1956/7. John was later known as John Nugent O’Shea. His death certificate is under that name. Ellen died in 1894  and John died in 1899. He had remarried in 1896, her name was Eliza Catherine Judd.
Ellen and John had 5 children, Mary A (1858). Ellen (1861). Laurence (1865). Bridget (1867) and Johanna (1869), known as Jane.
Would love to find Ellen and John’s marriage but have no idea where in Ireland they are from. All the children were born in England, around West Ham.
I hope someone can help me over this brick wall.

South Africa / Death of Soldier in Boer War Corporal Walter William Whitcroft
« on: Tuesday 15 September 15 10:57 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grand Uncle ,Corporal Walter William Whitcroft, was killed on 21 October 1901 at Cornelius River. He was in G Battery Royal Horse Artillery.
He was a Gun-layer and was killed by an explosion of a shell in his gun. Sergeant Scott was also killed.

According to the Coventry Evening Telegraph, of Monday 18 November 1901, the two men were buried together near a farmhouse and a wooden cross was erected with their numbers, rank, name and the inscription "Accidentally killed in action on 21 October 1901. R.I.P."

Would it be possible to find out if their grave is still marked or has it been moved? Both men are named on the Royal Artillery Memorial in the Mall.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help me find his grave.

Norfolk / Chaplin and Lansdale family
« on: Tuesday 20 October 09 17:03 BST (UK)  »
My 4xGreat Grandparents were Edmund Chaplin and Ann Lansdale. Edmund was 84 when he died in 1846 in Garvestone and Anne died in 1845 aged 84 in Yaxham.
I think they may have married in Diss, but I have no proof of this. They had a son Edmund  and a daughter Ann-Maria born around 1798. She married Henry Fellows.
Can anyone help me with this family?

Leicestershire / Whitcrofts of Ulverscroft
« on: Thursday 01 October 09 16:28 BST (UK)  »
My 3xGreat Grandparents were Joseph Whitcroft and Caroline Chambers.
Joseph was born in Ulverscroft  in about 1815 and died aged 92 in 1906 in Newton Linford.
Caroline was born in Warden, Bedfordshire in about 1821 and died aged 94, in 1915, in Leicester.

I have found them on 1841,1851,1861,1871,1881,1891 and 1901 censuses. Can anyone help me find out who their parents were?

They had 5 children. Charles (1842) William (1844, my 2xGreat Grandfather), Rachel (1847), John (1849) and Mary (1952).

I understand that there is a Whitcroft Lane in the Ulverscroft area and I wonder if this has anything to do with Joseph and Caroline but probably not!!!!

I would be very grateful for any help on this family.

My 2x Great grandmother was Lucy Bridget Finn born around 1838 but do not know where. Her father was Denis Finn, at some time he was a farmer on Ireland's Eye. Lucy Bridget came from a large family, I believe there were 14 children.

She married Hugh Mc Wain in 1861 in Stepney, London and they had 2 children. Elizabeth Mary Lucy  born 1867 and James Woodley McWain born 1873.

I would love to know anything about the Finns and also Ireland's Eye.
