Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1841/51 census lookup request - Southwark
« on: Friday 23 June 06 17:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am trying to find my O'Donnell & Bryant ancestors.  I am in Sydney, Australia and would appreciate any assistance you could give.

I have Mary O'Donnell b. abt 1842 (London?) who married Duncan McPherson in 1873 in Sydney.  Mary's parents are listed as John O'Donnell (baker) and Mary Bryant.  Another researcher has given me details of a marriage of James William O'Donnell and Mary Bryant - Dec quarter 1839, St George Southwark London Surrey.

I thought that if someone could find James/John O'Donnell and Mary Bryant on the 1841 or 1851 census it may help me to find my ancestors.  According to Mary McPherson's (nee O'Donnell) death certificate, she came to Australia about 1856 - but this information could be incorrect.

I also believe that she may have had a sister Eliza O'Donnell.  Eliza was a witness at Mary's wedding in Sydney.  I have ordered Eliza's marriage certificate in the hope that it may give me some clues.  I assume  that Mary came to Sydney as a young girl and possibly with her parents, but I have been unable to find a Mary snr, John or James and a Mary jnr on the same ship.  There are many shipping records of Mary O'Donnell's born around 1842 and I have been unable to narrow them down.

So if someone could find them in the 1841 and/or 1851 census I would be most appreciative.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 or 61 census lookup please :-)
« on: Friday 04 February 05 00:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am researching from Australia and was hoping that someone may be able to assist me to find the birth details of my ancestors from the 1851 or 1861 census.

The information I have is that William Burton (b. abt 1829) married Harriet Davies (b. abt 1834) on 10 April 1853 at Mancester Cathedral, Lancashire.  On 1 August 1861 they gave birth to their first child Martha Harriet Burton at Manchester.  The next child was born in 1863 in Spain and subsequent children were born in New Zealand.

I don't have any details of where William and Harriet were born and was hoping that the census will have their birthplace and assist me to narrow down a year of birth.

Many thanks

Hi,

I am tracing my O'DONNELL line.  Mary (jnr) b. abt 1842 London.  Married in Sydney in 1873.  According to her death certificate, she arrived in Australia about 1856.  Seeing as she was pretty young I assume that her parents came with her - being John (maybe James???) O'DONNELL and Mary O'DONNELL (nee BRYANT).

Can anyone assist with their immigration.  I have no siblings for Mary (jnr) and no marriage date for her parents although I believe it was in England.

Many thanks

Carol

London and Middlesex / MOSS - London (Shoreditch, Stepney)
« on: Thursday 13 January 05 09:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I am researching my MOSS line from Australia.

From furthest back I have:

George MOSS m. Jane BOYZO 25 Aug 1755 Spitalfields, Stepney.  Their children all born at Shoreditch were:  Richard (1756) - my line, Elisabeth (1766), Mary (1768)

Richard MOSS married Elizabeth MURPHY 8 Aug 1874 at St Dunstans, Stepney.  Their children all born at Shoreditch:  Mary (1785) - my line, William (1786), Elisabeth (1788), Sarah (1790), William (1791), Nancy (1792), Eleanor (1794) and Kezia (1796).

Mary MOSS b. abt 20 Feb 1785 married Cornelius Himes (Hines, Hyams) 13 Apr 1802 St Dunstans, Stepney.  The had the following children:  Thomas, Cornelius (my line - a convict sent to Australia), Mary, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Esther, Sarah and Henry.

I am interested in finding more information on this family and other MOSS researchers.

Many thanks

Carol

Hi,

Long story but here goes.

I have a John O'Donnell and Mary Bryant as parents to Mary O'Donnell (my gg grandmother) b. abt 1842 in London.

Today I looked at the England and Wales Civil Registration Index and found a possible marriage for Mary's parents.  Details:

James William O'Donnell and Mary Bryant both appear on the same page - Dec Quarter 1839, St George Southwark District, County London, Surry, Vol 4, pg 437.

So, it is possible that Mary's father was a JAMES and not JOHN.

Could someone please look up the 1851 census for this family unit.  I don't have any other siblings for Mary (jnr).  It may be the break I am looking for.

Mary married in Sydney, Australia in 1911 and arrived about 1856 (from death certificate).  I have not found her immigration and it is likely that her parents came with her given her age at the time.

Many thanks

Australia / Immigration - MAXWELL and MCINTYRE
« on: Saturday 04 September 04 07:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for the immigration of George MAXWELL to Melbourne.  George was born abt. 1817 in Limerick, Ireland and married Agnes McIntyre in Melbourne in 1852.  I have no indication of his date of arrival.  I don't have his parent's names and don't know if he arrived here alone or with other family members.  So it is sometime between 1817 and 1852.

I'm also looking for Agnes McINTYRE's immigration to Melbourne.  Agnes may have arrived with her parents John and Margaret McINTYRE possibly around 1840 (but that may be wrong).  Agnes also had a sister Margaret b. 1834 and a brother Allan b. 1837, who may be on the same ship.  Agnes was born in 1832, her father John abt 1808 and her mother Margaret abt 1801.  So the immigration would be between 1837 and 1852.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks  ;D

Antrim / MELLISH Ann/e - convict to Australia
« on: Saturday 04 September 04 07:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am in Australia and looking for any information on Ann/e MELLISH convicted at Antrim in 1824 of stealing from the person and sentenced to 7 years transportation.  She arrived in Sydney in 1825 on baord the Mariner.

I got most of these details from a website and have no particulars of conviction, birth etc.  She was 23 years old when convicted which would make her date of birth abt. 1801.  She was a milk, butter and cheese maker.

I would appreciate any links you can suggest that may help me find her birth and conviction details.

She married twice in Australia, firstly to Thomas Green, who died quite young and then to William Jones.  I'm not having much luck finding her death due to the common use of the name Jones.

Many thanks
