Roxburghshire / James Oliver born 26 December 1701 in Jedburgh
« on: Monday 24 April 23 08:43 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on James Oliver born 26 December 1701 and baptised on 26 December 1701 in Jedburgh,  So far I have him married to a jean Davidson, marriage date 10 November 1724 in Jedburgh.

The couple had a number of children.  I am particularly intersted in their son Robert Oliver born 16 April 1727 and baptised 23 April 1727 in Jedburgh.    This Robert may be my 5th great grandfather.  If this is the case he migrated to England and died in Hartington, Derbyshire in 1804.

The family story is that Robert was part of the Jacobite army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart which marched to Derby in 1745 and realising there was insufficient support returned to Scotland (ending   in the battle of Culloden).  The  family story goes, Robert left the army in Derbyshire and settled in Hartington where he married and had several children.

I have information on the Derbyshire side of the family but would appreciate it if anyone has information on the Oliver family of Jedburgh.

Any information appreciated.

Derbyshire / Robert Oliver (born about 1727) died in Hartington in 1804
« on: Tuesday 04 April 23 04:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the origins of my 4th great grandfather Robert Oliver (1727-1804).   He married Elizabeth Salt in Hartington  on 9 April 1752 and died and was  buried in Hartington in 1804.

There is speculation that Robert Oliver was in  Prince Charles Edward Stuart's Jacobite army which ended their march south in Derby in 1745.    I have found a baptismal record for a Robert Oliver  in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland on 23 April 1727.  However, a search of the army Muster rolls has not revealed any information.

However, the Scottish connection could be just speculation!   I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the Oliver family of Hartington.  I have good records  onwards from Mary Oliver (1804-1884) daughter of Robert Oliver and Sarah Alsoppe.  Mary married James Stanley in Pentrich  on  5 November 1827.

Any assistance with the Oliver family and a possible Scottish connection would be much appreciated.

thanks, marp

I am looking for Mary Pratman and Robert Burn who married in Beverley. East Riding on 8 February 1769.
I cannot find anything about Mary Pratman other than the marriage date.

I have had some success with Robert Burn but have not found parents nor baptismal date.
In the UK Poll book I have found Robert Burn, occupation gardener and also in the Hull Directory of 1791 which includes Beverley I found Robert Burn of Walkergate, occupation gardener.
Robert Burn was buried in Beverley on Dec 30, 1805.

Has anyone got these two in their family tree?
Thanks, marp

Hi,  I wonder if someone can help.  My ancestor is William Sadler who lived with his family at Clay Lane, North Wingfield but also had properties/farms in Clarborough, Notts.    Williams'parents were John Sadler (1709-1785) and Ann Hawksley (1712-1782)

I ound a piece of information that the Sadler family lived at Park House, Clay Lane but cannot find out anything more, nor am I sure of its authenticity. I do not know whether this includes William or his parents.

I realise Park House may well have been very close to the location of the Parkhouse colliery, ClayCross.  Perhaps the colliery was named after the location of the house?

I would appreciate any assistance on Park House!  Thank you!

I have a will which I have transcribed as it is fairly legible of an ancestor of mine.  He is Job Hole a yeoman  of Handley in the parish of North Wingfield.  The will is dated 1745.   The will has been very useful in tying together various descendants as Job Hole named his daughter Elizabeth Hole  (baptised Ashover 1702-1783) , son in law John  Hawksley  (baptised  7 JANUARY 1700 IN North Wingfield)  and various  Hawksley grandchildren.

I have two queries.
a) I am having trouble finding much about Job Hole.  I have a possible baptismal recprd of 13 Feb, 1680 in Ashover but am unsure if this is really the Job Hole in question
b) The second query is who is Isaac Hole the nephew mentioned in the will and an executor of the will of Job Hole?  I presume he is the son of Job's brother, but I cannot find a brother or dates that might fit!
I would appreciate any information which might help me in my search!
Thanks in advance,

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Edward Hodgkinson who married Dorothy Holland in 1656
« on: Sunday 18 September 22 10:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  i am related to various Hodgkinsons in Ashover but cannot seem to connect this particular branch to the others.   I am looking for the origins (parents etc) of Edward Hodgkinson, a yeoman,  of Dicklant, Miltown, Ashover who married Dorothy Holland of Wingerworth in 1656.

I have plenty of information on the Holland family  (Dorothy's father was John Holland of Swathwick, Wingerworth).

One source I found was Edward Hodgkinson baptised 12 June 1625 in Bakewell, son of Edward.  Another source claims he was he son of Richard.

Any help would be gratefully received.  is this Hodgkinson family any relation to the George Hodgkinson of Hatchleys , Ashover?

Thanks, marp

Derbyshire / Who is Sarah Waters/Walters borm about 1796 in Heage?
« on: Wednesday 09 March 22 04:40 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of Sarah Waters born around 1796 in Heage.

Sarah married William Hall on 21 November 1814 in Heanor.  The marriage banns state that Sarah was a resident of the parish of Dale and William resident of Heanor.   William was born in Denby and baptised  on 5 June 1792, Denby son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Hall.

Incidentally, where is the parish of  Dale?  Not convinced it is Darley Dale.

in the various pieces of census  information 1851 and 1861 Sarah states her birthplace as Heage.  Using census material as a rough guide I estimate she was born around 1796.

Can anyone help with finding Sarah's parents please?

Thank you, marp

I am looking for the descendents of Joseph Hall baptised 5 April, 1845 in Denby Derbyshire, England who married a Mary Valentine Brown born 14 February 1843 (possibly in Derbyshire).

Joseph was a coal miner in Denby and migrated to Pennsylvania, USA.  He died 5 May 1888 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and his wife Mary Valentine 2 October 1912 in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

They had a large family.  I am particularly interested in one of their children William Hall born 1869 also in Westmoreland County.   I have lost the line of descent from there in terms of who William married.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks, marp

« on: Wednesday 27 May 20 05:47 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of William Hall, baptised 5 June 1792 in Denby. His father is named Jonathan Hall.
I have found several people named Jonathan Hall both in Denby and in Duffield but none seem to fit a child baptised in 1792.
Can anyone help with the names and details of the parents of William Hall please?
Thanks, marp
